I finally found a free program to Auto Reboot system at set time

I find that my system tends to not release CPU and Memory usage once large demands are made (like recording 4 shows while watching another). I manually restart the computer and this fixed the problem. I just don't know why the system is so slow even after BTV completes the 4 recordings. You would think that the computer would run at 15% again.

Well, after searching awhile, I found a free piece of software that will reboot my computer every morning at 7:30am. Now I start each day with a system running at 15% vs. 85%.

Here it is: winoff

http://www.ampsoft.net/utilities/WinOFF.php

Until BTV ads this feature into the program, I will just use this.

Re: I finally found a free program to Auto Reboot system at set time

If you're willing to risk doing it during a recording, you don't need software -- Windows has everything you need.

Setup a batch file with one line:

Shutdown -R

then use the scheduler feature of Windows to run that batch file at a specific time.

-R says Restart.

I do it differently. I use the BIOS feature of my machines to turn the machine on at a specific time. I then use the batch file command

Shutdown -S

That shuts the machine all the way down. Depending on the machine, the down and up are a few or more hours apart. That lets the machines (and the room) cool off regularly.

I have tried your method so may times and it never works for me. I'm real computer savy , but still can not get the task to work.

You may want to look at this post for a better solution of rebooting the server:

HOW TO: Schedule a Periodic Reboot of BTV Only When Idle

Also, from Sysinternals.com, which is now owned by Microsoft, they have PSSHUTDOWN.exe. It works very nicely too and has more options.
I use PSSHUTDOWN -r -f
-r ---Reboot
-f ---FORCE shutdown

This is another alternative too.

You can also have BTV-Negociator reboot after a Guide update at a time of your choice...

With out knowing what you have tried.
One thing with the task scheduler is that you need to run this sort of command as administrator and supply is with the correct password, then it will work as it did for me when I had a similar problem.

This is another alternative too.
The built in shutdown command has -r and -f, as well as -t which is time. Just shutdown -r -f will give a 30 second countdown.
shutdown -r -f -t 0 will do it immediately.
