SSL Cert issue

Ok a little about my setup, i have a DC in my house for personal use and it is also my DNS server when i plug my htpc's name into IE it comes up and i can enter my login info but when i turn on SSL (i pefer to use it for encryption as i allow access to my htpc from outside) i get that the cert is not vaild, which i don't mind but i now have to login twice first time using the pc's name and the second logon goes to the comptuers IP address. It just seems strange but not sure if i can tweak the setup to work better. Any help would be appreciated thanks.
