SS 2.0 Crashes during test recording

Processor (make, model and speed) – Tyan 1833D - Dual Pentium 2 400
Operating System – Windows 2000
Tuner Card (make and model) – Hauppauge WinTV-PCI (Mono)
Tuner Card Driver type (WDM or VFW) – WDM – Tried Brooktree and Hauppauge version 339
Sound Card (make and model) – Creative Live! 5.1
Version of SnapStream PVS – 2.0
Detailed description of your problem

The software appears to have installed correctly (I had it running on another Dual processor system but had to retire it for this one). The web server runs. Using AMCAP (with BrookTree drivers) or WinTV with Hauppauge drivers I can access the card, tune the card, and have no problems that I can detect.

The Snapstream Hardware wizard completes successfully with all of its tests. When I try a diagnostic recording… The system schedules it, and begins to record (I see the status on the left of the web page that it is recording), but when the recording ends… the Snapstream server (I have it installed as a service with “ssw –installservice”) crashes. I found the following message in the SSW.RPT file

//================================================== ===

OK... My bad...

It was not the service, but in my haste (I'm surprised snapstream doesn't ask this as a default question) I forgot to install Direct X 8.x. I had 7.1. After the 8.1 upgrade all is well again with Snapstream.

I will suggest to the dev team that they include big flashing red lights during the install that demand downloading the latest DirectX. Currently in the install there is hawk-ptooie about DirectX; I don't even think it's mentioned.
