BTV not starting live TV in Vista

Here are the machine specs:

OS: Vista Ultimate (x64)
Memory: 4GB
Tuner Card: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 (With non-MCE 64-bit drivers installed. I tried both.)
Mobo: Gigabyte P35C-DS3R
CPU: Intel E6600
GPU: GeForce 8800GTS
Audio: Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platium Pro
Beyond TV 4.7.1

The problem is Beyond TV starts up fine, and works fine, but it can't seem to start live TV. When I ran the set up utility it found the card and managed to start a video feed, but if I try to start live TV I get a "Sorry, but we are unable to start viewing live TV" message. I've been able to get it going a few times, but it would stutter to a halt after a second or two. Recording works the same way, except I get a chopped up frame with green blocks.

To be fair, I don't know if this is a problem with the tuner or BTV. But I would think that if I could get video even for a second, then the tuner is probably fine.

Re: BTV not starting live TV in Vista

fyi, 64-bit OS's aren't supported, Hauppauge cards have issues w/ a 64-bit OS and 4gb of ram...

Alot of users have said that 4.7.1 doesn't work well in a 64-bit OS, so you might wanna try 4.6.1

That appears to be what the issue was (sort of.) It was a problem with Vista and virtual address space usage. There is a Hotfix available at Microsoft.com

After I installed it the video started. However the aspect ratio was wrong (too narrow) but BTV was able to correct for that.

Apparently Vista SP1 will solve a lot of problems people have been having with their tuner cards. But I wouldn't install the beta just yet.

You know, maybe I could've understood that a year ago, but now it just seems silly. 4GB of RAM isn't expensive at all. Seriously. It cost me $38 after rebate to upgrade from 2GB to 4. That's low latency gaming RAM too.

And it's not like it doesn't work at all, it's just buggy. Is making BTV work right out of the box on 64-bit really that horrible? It's not like it have to be native.
