Lots of "New" Shows really repeats -- WGA Strike or Bad Data?

A lot of my favorite series (the CSI's, etc) are showing as new episodes in the online and downloaded program guide data, but they are showing repeated episodes.

Is SnapStream getting bad data from the networks? Or was this going to be the correct data before shows got canceled due to the WGA strike?

You hit the nail on the head. Its the WGA strike with old data.

The networks aren't giving SnapStream corrected data with all of the repeat shows listed?

Re: Lots of "New" Shows really repeats -- WGA Strike or Bad Data?

It hit me on Wednesday night. Couchville and BTV thought CSI NY and Criminal Minds were new. BTV recorded repeats but the data was for the new shows. Then I spent time trying to figure out how to remove them from RecentRecordings.XML so they will get picked up when the truly air. I will still keep an eye on these two.

Strangely enough when I looked at Couchville the next day the information was correct showing repeats. Perhaps SS got the data late?

Cheers.

No, I think it was an attempt by CBS to trick people into watching reruns. CBS didn't release the schedule changes until right before NCIS on 12/18.

Re: Lots of "New" Shows really repeats -- WGA Strike or Bad Data?

Sure enough, NCIS "Tribes" was replaced with a repeat. BTV recored it as if it were new. What do I need to do to make sure that when "Tribes" does air, that BTV records it? i.e. How do I make BTV forget that it recorded that episode?

Re: Lots of "New" Shows really repeats -- WGA Strike or Bad Data?

One way to do this globally would be to set the Recent Record Days to 1 day. Of course this would work only if the real new episode does not air right after the fake "new" show within a 24-hour time frame, and the real new show has the correct original air date.

What I did was take a copy of RecentRecordings.xml and watched how it changed after a recording. Basically compared the 2 files and found (I think) the starting and ending points and then removed all that text from the file. I cannot remember what I removed right now though.

No proof that it is correct yet though.

Fonceur's Negociator can remove episodes from the recent recordings list, among many other things.

Re: Lots of "New" Shows really repeats -- WGA Strike or Bad Data?

Just downloaded Negociator -- great little program. My compliments to the programmer. (Thanks Fonceur!)

I was able to remove Tribes from the recent recordings, so I'm all set there.

However, I'm having problems with another show. Put it this way... I couldn't find it.

It was the last episode of "Pushing Daisies - Corpsicle".

Here's the situation:

When it aired, we started watching the episode after it had already recorded about 30 mins worth. Somehow during viewing, possibly when trying to FF through the commercials, I must have accidentally told it to stop the recording. We missed recording the last 5 min of the show. Luckily, we are still using our VCR's as backup sources and were able to watch the show. The bad part is that it was one series that we were keeping. So I don't have the complete episode now.

Would telling the recording to stop prior to finishing keep it from showing up in the "Recent Recordings"?

If so, does that mean when the show does re-air it will automatically record it?

Negociator works like a charm: the NCIS episode of "Tribes" has already scheduled itself as a new recording.
