Great, even more cable QAM tuners that Snapstream doesn't support.

The WinTV 1600 with QAM has been out for a long time and I still can't get a response from Snapstream if they will ever support it.

Re: AMD Introduces New Tuner Products to Deliver Exceptional HDTV on PCs

Snapstream has made it very clear that they will happily support the 1600 and any other HD QAM tuner as soon as the vendor provided industry standard BDA drivers.

Silicon Dust has done so with the HDHR, so it works flawlessly.

As soon as the other vendors choose to provide drivers, they will work in BTV.

The problem is NOT SS.

Except for the part where tuning clear QAM channels is not part of the BDA specification... SiliconDust has produced "enhanced BDA drivers", which are out of spec and handling the clear QAM like the ATSC tuning, so don't expect any of the big vendors to jump through hoops like that...

The other PVR software, supporting the other manufacturers, are doing that by directly using the manufacturer's API, which SnapStream refuses to do... Or by providing some means for third party integration (i.e. Sage TV's network encoder concept)...

Re: AMD Introduces New Tuner Products to Deliver Exceptional HDTV on PCs

As much as I enjoy watching clear QAM channels on my Toshiba LCD TV there are not enough interesting clear channels to justify buying the Homerun or any new cards at this time. I was so looking forward to clear basic QAM.

At some point I may have to break down and get a cable box to get more HD channels which will make my built-in QAM TV tuner useless.

I have had a great run with my current set-up. If SS goes to version 5 I may buy it but as far as hardware upgrades go I'll wait until SD goes dark.
I don't mind watching a show I missed on BTV in SD.

BTV is pretty awesome and the family likes it a lot. If the hardware vendors want to sell their products they will have to make drivers available. No matter what happens we are at the mercy of Comcast, Time Warner and the other signal providers. They control the clear QAM.
