3-Way Split of Comcast Digital

I'm sure this has been covered a few million times, but there are so many ways of asking and answering I thought I'd try once more. I just upgrade to Comcast Digital. I'd like to split the incoming coax three ways-to an analog PCI tuner and to two STBs. I have both a DCT100 and a DCT2224 I can use. One STB would be connected directly to the TV, the other to a second PCI analog tuner. The goal is to record and analog (0-99) and a digital (1-???) show simultneously, while also watching a digital channel live. Will BTV be able to tune the selected recording channel on the STB connected to the second PCI tuner? I guess I could use an IR Blaster for the second STB, but I want BTV to tell it what channel to output.

Re: 3-Way Split of Comcast Digital

That should work fine. BTV needs a IR Blaster to control the STB as you mentioned, or a USB-UIRT. I don't know if any STB's have a serial port like some DirecTV boxes do, but if so then that is also an option.

When you split the cable be sure and get a good quality splitter. I can't tell you how many of us have had cable quality problems, both analog and digital (QAM) that was the result of poor splitters or amplifiers. If your feed is already amplified then a good quality splitter would be okay. If it isn't already amplified, then consider an amplified splitter.

I've had excellent results with the non-powered splitters sold at Smarthome.com, and they are inexpensive too. Channel Vision brand I think. Home Depot also sells some 5-2400MHz splitters that are okay too. For amplified, Channel Vision, Channel Master, or Electroline are the best.

Sorry, more info than you asked for.
