Question Over Under Scanning

Ok I don't know what is going on here. My boss has a ATI card with catalyse control center. Everything is installed current.

He "had" windows screen underscanned because Windows was going out the sides. He goes into BTV 4 w/ new/LATEST upgrade. The menu portion of BTV is fine, but when you watch TV it flickers and is overscanned out of the visible edges. So he underscans it more and still no luck.

Is this BTV or ATI at fault please help me!

Thanks
Jason

Re: Over Under Scanning

Please post system specs like OS, video card model, Catalyst version, TV specs, etc. That would help others to assist, especially since I'm no expert. Anyway, it sounds like you're referring to a TV & not a monitor. Does he have both connected to the video card, or just a TV? Regardless, it might be easier to get everything looking good on a monitor first. If you don't currently have a monitor hooked up, I'm not sure how the video driver would react to adding one for testing & then later removing it. Probably if you have the TV as the primary display in the video driver you'd be fine, which is the recommended dual display setup anyway.

I wonder if the BTV window is maximized or not? On a dual monitor setup with one monitor & one TV, no matter what's on the monitor, ATI's Theater Mode will maximize any video playback for display on the TV. There would obviously be less processing involved if BTV is already maximized. If that doesn't help, maybe go into the video driver & reset the overscan settings to default & disable Theater Mode if it's being used (at least for now).

The BTV Viewscape also has an "exclusive fullscreen resolution" in the Web Admin, which I think defaults to 800*600 (at least that's where mine is set). Not sure how that would play into this, or why it would have changed.

Exclamation Re: Over Under Scanning

win mce 2005, ati radeon 7???, tv is rear projection - 60 in wide screen 4-3 ratio, catalyse version is the most up to date - but I don't currently know the version.

He had two hooked up both monitor and tv. Then un hooked the monitor. Now only tv is attached. He under scanned it so the windows fits in the tv. He checked out Media Center 2005 and it works fine.

Due to trouble shooting, this points to Beyond TV as the problem. Is there any bugs with the new upgrade.

Thx

Re: Over Under Scanning

If he's really using a Radeon 7000 series card, that's really ancient in technology terms. Everything I described is based on a much much more recent card, I have no idea if it applies to something that old. If it's an X700 or X1000 series, then my guesses should be relevant. If it's an Nvidia 7000 series, that's pretty recent, but then there shouldn't be any ATI drivers involved at all. I'm afraid I've maxed out my knowledge so far.

Re: Over Under Scanning

go into Settings --> Playback Settings -- Adjust Display at the bottom of the screen -- set that size.

Then see how it acts.

Re: Over Under Scanning

Well the deal is, when he came in this morning; he said he reinstall the btv 4 with no upgrade and it worked. When he installs the upgrade the display only for btv tv viewing is screwed up and not the btv menu. It happened twice. Should I not install the upgrade? He wants the multiple Disk Management feature....

Please Help
