File is corrupt or the path <path/Filename> no longer exists

Hello all,

I have been running fine for a while but all of a sudden get the above error. I have had no updates I am aware of (I Have Windows Auto Update turned off) The file is there and I can play it on that system only (I get codec errors on the others) if I use Windows media player.

This happens on programs that were recorded during one time period. (Of course I was out of town so that translates to an entire week).

I wanted to burn some DVD's and cannot because of the file being 'corrupt'.

Please, no suggestions on 4.7. I don't use an Ipod and have no value in trying to rebalance my system until I see more good things and consistant reports on 4.7.

Any ideas?

Thanx

Jim

Re: File is corrupt or the path <path/Filename> no longer exists

OK,
Just found new files that have the same problem. These recordings go back to times past the original time I thought I had the problem.

Thanx for your help

Jim

Re: File is corrupt or the path <path/Filename> no longer exists

This message usually means that there is a codec issue, in my experiences. I assume these are MPEG2 files recorded with BTV, right? Not WMV, or divx.

Try changing the decoder used by BTV for MPEG2 playback (settings->playback settings->preferred mpeg2 decoder).

You say that you ARE able to view the shows on the one server but not on others. Typically, this is because you have the MPEG2 registered on the one server that works so WMP can find a codec to use while there are none available on your other servers.

Re: File is corrupt or the path <path/Filename> no longer exists

These files are BTV AVI created by show squeeze. I can watch them on my BTV Server under Windows Media Player, but not on my workstation under Windows Media Player (10 on both).

However, I did run through the Preferred MPEG-2 (I know, not MPEG, but figured it wouldn't hurt) and changed the video renderer from Overlay to 3d Accelerated

No change.

Thanx for the ideas and helping me define my issue. Any other ideas?

Re: File is corrupt or the path <path/Filename> no longer exists

ok,

the Preferred MPEG-2 decoder won't have any effect on AVI files... But, the same logic applies... the files you are encoding with BTV are just fine, but BTV is getting confused when it tries to playback the show.

To playback the show, the player, in this case BTV, creates what is called a DirectShow graph. In that graph are all the directshow filters used to render the file. These filters read the file from disk, split the audio and video apart, render the comressed audio and video into a raw form and pass them to the output devices, sound card and video card respectively.

Different players generate graphs differently. Whenever WMP has a problem rendering a graph, it gives you that "Missing Codecs" popup. Whenever BTV cannot render a proper graph, it says the file is corrupt or missing... a bit misleading. But the fact that you can view the shows in another player proves the shows are fine.

Trick is now going to be how to make BTV render the divx (AVI) files it made.

Questions:

On your BTV server, do you have a divx codec installed aside from the one that comes with BTV? Do you an xvid codec? Do you have ffdshow installed? All of these can cause conflict when trying to playback the AVI in BTV.

On your other server, it looks like you don't have any codec for the AVI to playback properly. I recommend ffdshow. It's a very configurable codec, but the default setup should be sufficient.
