Re: New External Drive Storage

This is simular to raid but without the limitations.

Can have a mix of various sizes and still work as a raid:

1. 250 gig
2. 250 gig
3. 250 gig
4. 500 gig

gives you aprox 696 gbytes of secure storage!

1. 100 gig
2. 100 gig
3. 100 gig
4. 200 gig

gives you aprox 277 gbytes of secure storage!

Once the inital setup is done, you never have to format another drive, just add and your good to go. If a drive fails, just replace it and ur good to go. No need to format the new drive.

See http://www.drobo.com/drobolator/ for other combos.

My only question is if this would be fast enough for BTV recording/playback?

Mike

I would think that it would be fine for playback, but BTV doesn't record to NAS devices

Re: New External Drive Storage

It is not a NAS device.

It is a USB2 drive.

Re: New External Drive Storage

I haven't looked at how that works and all other details. But if I'm correct it is $500 without any dirves. Wouldn't this work for you.

Re: New External Drive Storage

I think you meant to link to This: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817256018

Since it's eSATA and comes with a PCI Express x1 eSATA Adapter Card, I'm 99% sure that BTV can communicate with it.

I'm 1% unsure because I don't own the thing....

Re: New External Drive Storage

The Drobo is very expensive for what it is and the read performance is horrible. 22 MB per second is a huge performance hit. A single, stand alone SATA drive would be giving you 60 MB per second or better. You can get a hardware RAID product for a lot less than the Drobo. I don't get it.
