From 4.2 to 4.6.1 Search Feature slow now

4.2 searches came up nearly instantaniously. Now with 4.6.1 they take longer then before....long enough I don't like it =/
Hope this gets corrected! And I am not exactly runnng a slow computer FX-60.

At least it's working for you! I never get any search results back even after waiting a painfully long time. MythTV here I come!

Re: From 4.2 to 4.6.1 Search Feature slow now

They did change something in 4.6 to improve and "speed up" the searches, but I never felt it was any faster... Then again, I never felt it was much slower either...

Re: From 4.2 to 4.6.1 Search Feature slow now

Hey Soham, I did already (LYI-362403) and the 'solution', after much back and forth, was to uninstall completely and re-install.

I didn't find that really workable/valid, and never got around to it and the ticket auto-closed.

Well, I'm sorry that it did not work for you. However, sometimes an odd issue can point to an installation issue. I don't know if it was valid or not in your case. Your case is the first I've heard of search not working at all. Anyway, I hope you are able to give it a try at some point.

Thanks Soham. I'm first going to give MythTV a go and if that doesn't work out for me, I'll come back home

Re: From 4.2 to 4.6.1 Search Feature slow now

Ok, chiming in I started complaining about the new search features in the 4.6 betas, as a result they did get many of the issues repaired, however they are still painfully slow mainly because they search much much much more detail in the guide database than pre 4.6. As a result, depending on what you search for, and how many potential hits there are to search, you will have to wait maybe 2-3 seconds or up to (on my machine) 30-40 seconds for coherent results from a title search. In my opinion, there were no issues with the old title search, but keyword search needed help. Now keyword search is slightly faster, but title search is slower.

Old title search searched for titles that began with the text string (minus "the", etc) new title search looks for all combinations of the words in the search in the title, and then probably as a second step in keywords, And because movies and shows are stored in the database differently under title, it does (at least) two searches.

Now, question is, do we like the new title search better, or do we like the old one better, sounds like another poll to me

Re: From 4.2 to 4.6.1 Search Feature slow now

Everyone with 4.6.1 must be seeing this slow down? I have 3 setups of BTV. Mine and 2 others I setup for friends and family. All three machines title search is very slow..compared to versions before. I didn't mind keyword search being slow...I expected it. But title search (= grrrr

Re: From 4.2 to 4.6.1 Search Feature slow now

According to Kilrsat, this is a known bug and will be fixed in a future release. Do you like the new (4.6+) title search or the old search better? Oh well, wouldn't have started the poll if I knew that, thought most of the bugs were worked out in the betas.

Re: From 4.2 to 4.6.1 Search Feature slow now

My searches within BTV4.6.1 are terribly slow. Also, the new 'indexing' pass of the guide update (to support the new searches) adds LOTS of time (and steals plenty of CPU cycles) to the guide processing. As for me, I wish it went back to the old (4.2) search.

Yep, very slow (and irritating) for me too. It looks like a newest competitor is attempting to capitalize on this weakness.. they are prominently advertising "lightning fast searches".
