Never record an episode??

I was wondering if anyone knows how to tell BTV to never record an episode. There's a couple shows, Scrubs comes to mind, that reruns on 2-3 different channels. I've seen a lot of the episodes so I don't care to record them again. I've told BTV to record all episodes of scrubs on any channel. Obviously once BTV has recorded an episode once it won't do it again, but until then, the only option I have is to tell BTV not to record an episode "At this time" So a week later when that same episode is on another channel it wasnt to record it again, and again and again. "How its Made" is another example. They rerun that show about 1000 times a week so about once a week I have to go through and tell it 992 times to not record certain episodes. Anyone have an idea?

Re: Never record an episode??

There is currently no way to do this and I know exactly what your talking about. I have found it easier to just let it record and then delete the show. This is the type feature I wish they would add. Instead we get Couchville.

Re: Never record an episode??

Get a copy of BTV-Negociator (link in my signature) and simply add it to the Recent recording list... You should also increase the Recent recording list to more than 30 days (0 will keep them all).

Re: Never record an episode??

I changed my to 0 and that's been real nice. But, store up a bunch of shows for the down times when there's nothing new on. Now I just wish I could blank out the guide for all of the shows that are repeats or that I have already recorded. Why re-read the same show title? Lazy or just efficient?

(I can't believe how many "How its made" there are!)

Re: Never record an episode??

I keep forgetting about Fonceur's apps for doing these sort of things, but I want to be able to do this with my remote only. IMO these are things that should be part of the viewscape. It just not convenient to drop out the viewscape and use these other programs on my server. Technically my answer is incorrect because there is a way.

Re: Never record an episode??

then create a wireless network. get a notebook and place it strategically near the tv chair so if you want to change something it is just a matter of firing up the laptop and make the change. as long as the plugin supports using on network.

Re: Never record an episode??

I would urge you to try Fonceur's BTV Negociator for this. His plugin is VERY advanced and allows for some very advanced stuff that isn't currently built in to BeyondTV. It has a small footprint and can be setup to work pretty much automatically once you get things set up the way you want them.

I wonder if you are married. Having a laptop set up in my living room ain't gonna happen. I get free rein in the garage and my shop, everything else belongs to her. I do get a little leeway in the office, and some space around the TV as long as it doesn't fan out to far into the living space.

I have a wireless network BTW, my server is connected to my network via a wireless bridge. Even if I did have a laptop set up in the living room it really would not change anything. Before I would bring out a laptop and boot it up I could just get my wireless keyboard, or walk back to the office and log in remotely. It's just I am not really in the mood or just too damn lazy to get up. I would rather just have an option to not record this episode now or anytime for the next 30 or however many days I have my database set to retain data. It is not a big deal really, just something I would like to see.

Re: Never record an episode??

I don't get your problem. I just click on "Do not record any episodes"

Who is missing what here? Is it me? I never have a problem getting rid of recording jobs in BTV.

It's you. The problem is with an episode you have seen and you do not wish to record it again. The only option you have is do not record this episode at this time. If it happens to be a episode that is reran several times, if there is a place BTV can record it later it will. So you must find every airing of the episode and click do not record at this time. As I said in an earlier post I usually just let it record and then delete it. As I said it's not a big deal and a minor annoyance at best, for me it only comes up every now and then.

Re: Never record an episode??

I watch TV and surf the net at the same time, it's my bad. It's "an" not "any" episode, hoglander.

This was problem for me too. I decided to just look at "View upcoming episodes" once a week on shows that are like that for me and forgot about it the problem. I used BTV NEGO for a time but went back to the once a week habit as mentioned.
