encoding default recordings (mpeg) to wmv or dvix

So I have around 120GB of recording spread over a 10 month period that I want to encode over to either wmv or divix to save space.

So I have tried just about any known encoder out there and nothing will encode them, I always get the error "unkown video format"

If I use the divx converter from the divx homepage it just locks up on me.

The only thing that works is using showsqueeze. Any other programs out there?

Re: encoding default recordings (mpeg) to wmv or dvix

I suspect that it may be time for you to reload windows if there are multiple issues going on...

You wouldn't be able to play the shows (in Windows Media Player) if you didn't have the proper codecs installed. You could use Gspot to see what codecs a file requires. If you are missing codecs then my favorite package is k-lite.

The Divx converter is both easy and fast...the other products tend to get complicated. One of the most popular divx tools is AutoGK. Some of the encoding settings will cause my machine to blue-screen...it is one of the few programs that will do so.

Re: encoding default recordings (mpeg) to wmv or dvix

I am wondering if the divix converter stops working because I am using vista. It adds the shows I want to the queue just fine and then analyzes then just fine but stops working when it tries to convert. The new beta version of btv seems to work just fine using showsqueeze.

shall try k-lite later.

In 4.5 ShowSqueeze does not work with WMP11. That's been fixed in the beta version.

When is the beta going to be released to the rest of us? I'd love to keep using this program, but as it stands there are a few major issues I'm having with it and that's one of them.
