OTA HD and Direct TV and BTV 4.5

I am not sure if I can do this. But is it possible to have a setup that records shows in HD via a OTA antenna (Just for my Fav network shows) and still use a second card for sat box regular recording? Is the HD card considered a "Hardware encoding" card so BTV can support both?

Re: OTA HD and Direct TV and BTV 4.5

I have been doing this for a while. The HD cards are not really encoder cards at all they basically just capture the raw stream and write to disk (the stream is already a form of MPEG2 known as TS or transport stream? ).

There should be no problem at all doing this.

Sure, I do it all the time. You could even do it with one card (ATI TV Wonder 650) if you only wanted to record one show at a time.

Yeah Your right its has to be in a high def fomart like MPEG -2 of something of the sort. Thanks

But is BTV smart enough to know to use one tunner for one recoding and the other tunner for regulars recording

Re: OTA HD and Direct TV and BTV 4.5

I'm not sure what the first sentence means. SD will record in MPEG-2 and HD will record in Transport Stream.

You'll see different channel numbers for HD (1xxx) and it will use the proper tuner for the proper channel.

I have, uh, lots of both types of tuners.
