Help with Adaptec AVC-3610

Looking for some help on adjusting the the capture resolution and/or bit rates on this tuner.

No matter what I set it for I am always recording in Best MPEG-2 Quality.

Running BTV 4.4 on Windows XP Pro SP2 using Adaptec Drivers.

Maybe you just need to uninstall and reinstall the drivers? Mine works just fine at better quality.

Say does yours have an audio issue? I have a couple of these untis and they have much lower audio than I expected. I dont mind it too much as I just turn it up but the menu controls and windows functions on my computer blast real loud as a result and I'm trying to find a way around this.

Re: Help with Adaptec AVC-3610

When you are recording at "Better" Quality is the resolution changing to 640x480? Mine is stuck at 720x480 for everything. Will try another fresh install and see what happens.

I have not had any issues with the audio portion. If your box is being used as an HTPC you could disable the sound effects in both BTV and windows.

Tuner cards do not have a standard way to set the resolution. So many cards will not change resolution, but only bitrate. You can see if the resolution was actually able to be set by looking at the log.

Re: Help with Adaptec AVC-3610

Unfortunately it does not change the bitrate either. The log shows the bitrate set to whatever I choose, but the corresponding file-size does not match that bitrate at all.

The only way Ive been able to change the bitrate on this tuner is to go into the registry and change the bitrate there in the section for the tuner drivers. Unfortunately this requires a reboot each time and thats a pain.

Please advise if I am taking the long/stupid way of doing this, and if there is an easier way or a fix to make this tuner work with the settings I choose.

Re: Help with Adaptec AVC-3610

I don't have that tuner to try myself. For a card to get certified for MCE, they have to meet a certain API to change bitrate. Beyond TV uses those same calls, so I'm surprised it doesn't work. I would suggest submitting a ticket to SnapStream tech support so that they can take a look at it with a card in-house.

Meanwhile, you may be able to avoid rebooting by using GraphEdit to change the bitrate. I suspect that when you make the change in GraphEdit, it will change the registry values for you and those values will work when you launch Beyond TV.

Re: Help with Adaptec AVC-3610

Using GraphEdit has given me a better short-term solution to this issue for sure, as I have been able to adjust the bitrate and even the resolution using that tool.

Thanks again!

Re: Help with Adaptec AVC-3610

I have recently submitted full debug logs which tech support is investigating. I will post any helpful information they provide.
