NEED HELP: Convert HD Transport Streams to MPEG2
Hi everyone,
So far I love Beyond TV... much better than GB PVR! But a really quick question and something that I've missed sorely from GB PVR is recording/converting HD programming to MPEG2. Yes, I understand I'll lose the HD resolution, but to me that's not as important as being able to burn those programs to DVD for playback on my 50" plasma. Please don't tell me I have to buy the new DVD Burning plug-in since I'm sure it'll convert it in order to burn to DVD (since it has to). I have a DVD authoring process and I like it... full control over my menu, etc. and it takes me no time to use it. Plus I don't want to spend the extra $30. It seems that Beyond TV will record SD materials to MPEG2 straight, but I can't figure out how to do it with HD stuff. Thanks for the help! |

If you are capturing HD as a tp or ts and want to convert that to compliant mpeg2 for DVD then I recommend a freeware app called HDTV2DVD. Just drop your ts or tp file in and it will create the video_ts folder and additionally a single mpeg2 file just in case you have authoring software you would rather use. Another freeware app you should look at is HDTVtoMPEG2 which allows you to pick which stream to convert and has commercial detection.

Hmmm. So how do I set up my ATI TV Wonder 650 with Beyond TV so that HD materials are captured as MPEG2? I've already specified the Preferred Recording File Format to MPEG2 in the Settings menu. Is there something else I need to do? In the mean time, I'll give HDTV2DVD a try. Thanks! Last edited by phuocle; 11-16-2006 at 10:27 PM. |

I used to burn lots of DVDs but got tired of it. About 14 months ago purchased a network media player and hooked it to my 55" LCD HDTV. Now I just stream the ts or tp file as is to my TV via a LAN cable. When we are done watching we delete it. Every once in a while we will want to archive a show and that is when I reach for HDTV2DVD. What I really like about HDTV2DVD is that it keeps the aspect ratio perfectly. The resulting DVD plays full wide screen just like commercial DVDs and looks as good or better. When I record HD using my PVR250 analog cap card the PQ is good but there are black borders all around the picture and PQ falls off when I zoom to full screen.
