MPEG2 Playback Stupidity yay!!!!! HELP!

**EDIT: mods I accidentally posted this in discussion first, please delete it ***

So, I have a Vizio 37" HDTV in my living room, hooked up to my PC via component video cables via the VIVO on my 6600GT and via fiber optic cable, going through an Onkyo receiver.

Why in the hell does video not show up in MPEG2 format on my friggin tv? It plays fine on my LCD in my room (19" Microtek) both maximized and normal window size.

Here's the caveat though, it'll play fine in DiVX format on the tv. WHY?! This makes no friggin sense that the mpeg2 codec only works on 1 set and the divx one works on 2. Additionally, I have the same problem even if the HDTV is plugged in through VGA. It used to play MPEG2's perfectly fine a while back.

If you couldn't already tell, I'm very frustrated. Can someone help me PLEASE?! Thanks in advance, you guys are always awesome

Re: MPEG2 Playback Stupidity yay!!!!! HELP!

Are you running in clone mode with multiple monitors? Some decoders will only display in 3d mode on the primary display.

try using overlay or switching the primary monitor to be the tv...

Re: MPEG2 Playback Stupidity yay!!!!! HELP!

When you say that video not does show up in MPEG2 format, are you saying that you are getting sound and a black screen, or are you getting video with black bars on the side/top. What display resolutions are you using ? What nvidia driver are you using ? Is this the only montor attached to this system ? I needed to try a bunch of different resolutions and changed some of the other nvidia settings before I got a good picture that covered the entire screen.

Re: MPEG2 Playback Stupidity yay!!!!! HELP!

ok, so here's some more details for diagnosis. thanks for your help already, hopefully this will solve the problem:

i am running in dualview mode, not clone mode, which wasn't a problem in the past (like i said, this used to work just fine)

i'm running the primary monitor at 1280x1024 and the hdtv is set at 1280x720 with underscan turned on and the screen stretched a little. i used to run it through vga at 1366x768, and again, a few months back and before reformatting it worked.

i'm using snapstream's decoders for both audio and video

what i end up getting is no picture but perfect sound, so situation 1 nanook.

i'm using a version of the drivers somewhere in the 80's, i think 83.xx or 87.xx, because when i used the 91.xx's with my 6600gt the picture was horrendous. i actually posted a thread about that too because of the issues i was having. i was also using a version in the 80's that used to work.

no, it's not the only monitor, there's a 19" lcd on the dvi port and the 37" hdtv going component video out through VIVO (and I still have the vga cable at my disposal when needed)

Thanks in advance

Re: MPEG2 Playback Stupidity yay!!!!! HELP!

Have you tried to ensure the HDTV is set as the primary and/or set the HDTV as the only connected monitor? That would help to eliminate one variable first.
