Making a DVD from HDTV .tp File

Hello-

I have recorded an hdtv show using BeyondTV and ATI HDTV wonder from an OTA signal on FOX. The program was 1hr and I now have a ~9GB .tp file.

I am not sure the best way to put this on a single layer 4.7G DVD. I am not too concerned with the quality being perfect.

Anyone with ideas? My thought was to get a DVD compliant mpeg out of the .tp so I can author a DVD, but not sure how to do this.

Thanks

Cathy

What DVD burning software do you have already.

This tool should get you a good Mpeg to work with.

Re: Making a DVD from HDTV .tp File

I have several authoring progs...none of which really do exactly what I want.

I mostly used the Ulead DVD Movie Factory Trial for "pretty" and easy menus...I would use the Do Not Reencode option. Usually I have analog (PVR150) MPEG2 DVD compliant files right out of BeyondTV.

I have also used TMPGEnc DVD Author, but the menus did not work right on my DVD player...strange. Seems to have something to do with the number of titlesets.

For really basic burning I used something called TYTools and dvdauthor.

Just want to create a DVD compliant MPEG from the .TP file. Or I suppose it would be ok to create .VOB files directly. I will check out the tool you suggested.

Thanks

Cathy

Re: Making a DVD from HDTV .tp File

I've been using HDTVtoDVD to archive HD programming to DVD:

http://www.svcd2dvd.com/HDTV2DVD/

It takes a transport stream and generates a DVD image (AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders) which can be burned directly to DVD. No authoring features at all, but it's free, relatively fast and stable.

Re: Making a DVD from HDTV .tp File

I've been using HDTV2DVD to create DVD complaint files as well. Not only does it create the folders to burn directly to CD, it also generates an Mpeg file which you can author with another program.

I would second that. HDTV2DVD is freeware, and as far as I'm aware, there is no faster way to transcode an HD transport stream to a DVD ready mpeg2. In my experience, transcoding takes about 1.5 times "real time," and the quality is fantastic. There is a retail version available called "SVCD2DVD" which is essentially the same program but much more feature rich. It can be had (last time I checked) for a $19.95 "donation."

Re: Making a DVD from HDTV .tp File

Ok I tried HDTV2DVD 0.4 and got an error message using a BeyondTV4 .tp file as an asset:

It got through the first part of the processing, created the VIDEO_TS an AUDIO_TS folders and a 0kb VTS_01_0.ifo file.

Any ideas?

Re: Making a DVD from HDTV .tp File

Venturing a guess, I'd say the transport stream is corrupt, not all that unusual unless you have perfect HD reception. I would run it through VideoReDo's "Quick Stream Fix" feature to weed out the corrupt frames. Try that, then run it through HDTV2DVD again. Sometimes, a transport stream is so corrupted that even VideoReDo cannot salvage it.

BTW VideoReDo has a fully functional trial available...you can at least try it out to see if it works.
