Terminal Confusion
I don't know if this is a 4.2 issue or something else, but it started happening after upgrading from 4.0 to 4.2 today and I just added my second digital terminal yesterday, so there wasn't a lot of time for it to happen since then. Anyway, until yesterday, I had a two tuner setup with one tuner using a SA3100 and the other tuner with basic cable. I bought a SA3200 and set it up yesterday. The 3100 is set up as Zone 3 and is controlled by the USB-UIRT. I plugged in the emitter I got with my Media Center computer and I think I set that to Zone 2 and stuck it to the 3200. I was happy when it worked. Now, it's getting all confused. BTV will start recording a show on the 3200 and if another show comes up, it'll change the channel on both terminals to the same show.
I'm going to switch the emitter to Zone 1 to see if that'll help, but I was just wondering if this has been a problem for anyone else and if so, did it start after ugrading to 4.2. |

Re: Terminal Confusion
Is the USB-UIRT pointing at them both? They both use the same IR codes and so it could be changing both channels.
Figure out how to get one of the boxes to use different IR codes, then go through the learning process for that box. Tom |

I just removed the emitter from the 3200 and put it next to the USB-UIRT and ran BTV. When I went to Live TV, I watched the boxes and only the 3100 changed channels, so the 3200 isn't getting the signal from the USB-UIRT. After putting the emitter back on, both boxes changed channels. I guess I can go back to BTV 4.0 and see if it works properly, but I'm going to miss the "Record From Any Channel" feature in 4.2. Update: I just uninstalled 4.2 and re-installed 4.0. With the basic setup, it controlled both boxes when I went to Live TV. After changing the Zone for the 3100 to 3, it only changed the 3100. I copied the RMT file for the 3100 and named it "Scientific Atlanta Cable Box Explorer 3200.rmt" and changed its Zone to 1 and made an Input for that capture device (Hauppauge PVR USB2). When I went into Live TV, only the 3100 changed to channel 1. As a recording test, I went to the guide and told it to record channel 2. Only the 3100 changed to 2 and it started recording. Then I told it to record channel 3, the 3200 device didn't change channels, but started recording channel 1, so I stopped everything and changed the 3200 to Zone 2 and repeated the process and it worked properly. Checking the recordings verifies this. After upgrading to 4.2 and choosing the advanced features, and while doing the same test, both boxes changed channels when I told BTV to record channel 2. Only the 3200 changed when I recorded channel 3. As I expect, if I stop the channel 2 recording and start recording 4, both boxes shoulld change channels and mess up the recording on channel 3. I was right, so this is looking like a 4.2 issue. I hope this all makes sense. Now, to uninstall 4.2 and re-install 4.0 until this is fixed. (pout) I was waiting so long for that "Any Channel" feature. I guess I'll be waiting a little longer. Last edited by DJ Max; 04-01-2006 at 01:06 PM. |

Re: Terminal Confusion
I just sent in a support ticket for the problem and thought I'd try fixing the problem myself by getting another IR emitter with a stereo splitter. Easier said than done. I live near Yonge Street in Toronto and went to every logical place (and one illogical place) I could find between College St. and the Eaton Centre, but no place sells emitters. As soon as Radio Shack/The Source told me they didn't have them, I figured I was in big trouble. They would have been the most logical place. So, does anyone know what kind of stores sell these things? I was going to go back to 4.0 to solve the problem, but the backup I made with 4.2 won't restore back into 4.0 and I'd have to roll back BTV Link on my laptop to 4.0. I thought maybe I'd just deal with 4.2 and work around the issue until there's a fix. I'll just have to make sure I tell BTV all my "important" recordings should be from the 3100 and it can mess up the less "important" recordings on the 3200, but if anyone knows where I can find an emitter in this area, please let me know. It may not help, but it's worth a try.
