Problems with New ATI All In Wonder Sofware

Be on notice:

You may have problems with Beyond TV version 4.10 if you install the latest version of the the ATI All In Wonder Software. I did a CLEAN install of Windows XP Professional with all of the updates and then installed the latest version of Catalyst from the ATI site. ( No other software was installed.) I then tried to set up Beyond TV but was unable to get beyond setting up the audio and video channel. I searched the site and the forum and none of the thinks that I could find addressed this. I tried a number of things, but to resolve matters I eventually had to:

1 - Reformat my drive and
2 - Install and older version of Catalyst

Note to self - Only update when I HAVE to !

Beyond TV Crew: It would be great if you had a table that listed the video software products that your software was tested on. Armed with such a table, I've have avoided a LOT of pain (sniffle)

Re: Problems with New ATI All In Wonder Sofware

What AIW do you have? I have purchased the AIW X1900 and it is different from past AIW's in that a connection from the video card to the sound card is not needed.

I have found a few other problems as well, but since the AIW X1900 is new, and different from past AIW's, it doesn't surprise me that there are a number of issues with ATI's and 3rd party software.

Re: Problems with New ATI All In Wonder Sofware

I have an AIW 2006 edition. I installed the BeyondTV trial around Christmas and it was working great. When my trial expired I went back to the included Guideplus+ (UGH!). Since I was having some issues with the Guideplus+ I thought I would look for some updates on the ATI site. Found the Catalyst update and installed it. After installing it wouldn't even detect my tuner card. Wasn't able to uninstall the update. Decided it was time to spend the rest of my Christmas money and buy BeyondTV. I did a fresh install of the OS and installed the minimum ATI software, then installed BeyondTV. Everything works great now except for my LiveTV stuttering, I only get a stutter once or maybe twice in a recorded movie so I can bear with that as I am only using BeyondTV for archiving not for watching live TV.

So in short ATI does not apparently test the updates very well before releasing them (as I have read many other users experience issues when updating to the newest Catalyst and MMC software).

Re: Problems with New ATI All In Wonder Sofware

Recent catalyst versions are a little funky in detecting the AIW tuner sometimes. What worked for me was going into web admin and setting up the source there, that was the only way to get my AIW 9800pro's tuner detected correctly. Otherwise, the setup wizard would see the tuner, allow me to select it as an option, but just would not allow me to say s-video, composite, or tuner, so lord only knows what the software was trying to connect to. This was using the 4.1 version of BTV. I loaded up the latest release candidate for 4.2 last week, and that did not have the problem.

Just for the record though, my AIW 9800pro requires no cable from vid card to sound card either, FYI, and that card is a few years old. I am using an m-audio audiophile 192, so that may be a driver thing with the sound card.
