HDTV .TP file contains TWO recordings (2 channels)!!
This is the most bizarre thing I've seen:
Last night I used BTV 4.1 to record the 1 hour Fox show "24" on channel 5.1(HDTV). Just now I opened the approx 9GB .TP file using VideoReDo editing software. I clicked play and saw the show All Of Us (channel 9). At first I thought it recorded the wrong show. But then I went down to my basement computer, where BTV and the tuner cards exist in a Win MCE machine. I played the recording in BTV and it was "24" in HD from channel 5.1(as it should be). So I go back to my workstation upstairs and open the same(and only) .TP file (across my network). VideoReDo still shows me the wrong program. Then I notice that VideoRedo has a Tools->Select Stream menu option. I select it and am presented with TWO video & audio streams. Apparently TWO shows were recorded and stored in this one .TP file. My setup: ---------- tuner #1: Hauppague PVR-150MCE tuner #2: ADS InstantHDTV PCI video: NVidia 6600 8xAGP w/ 256MB I believe that BTV captured data from both the HDTV tuner and the analog tuner from the ADS tuner card. Maybe that is how these hybrid-tuner cards work? But it seems very odd to me. Plus, it's extra work for the PC to have to record all the extra data from a 2nd tuner... Anybody ever see this before? |

Re: HDTV .TP file contains TWO recordings (2 channels)!!
Are you sure that All Of Us wasn't being broadcast on a subchannel of your Fox affiliate? I know when I record Lost from my ABC affiliate (6.1) and throw it into VideoReDo it sees all 3 subchannels (the "main" channel, a 24 hour local programming channel (6.2), and a still map with the spinning weather radar (6.3) ).

Re: HDTV .TP file contains TWO recordings (2 channels)!!
No, the unwanted show was not on any 5.x channels. VideoReDo shows the details for each of the two video streams as:
1) 1280x720, 59.94FPS, Progressive, 16x9, 19.0 Mbps, 5.1 audio 2) 480x480, 29.97FPS, Prog or Int, 4x3, 3.8 Mbps, 2.0 audio I was wrong about the unexpected/undesired stream(#2 above): it consisted of two 30 minute shows airing on channel 9 (Girlfriends from 9-9:30, Half and Half from 9:30-10:00). From the VideoReDo stream information we can see #2 was not HDTV/digital TV. But maybe you are on the right track, as I seem to recall that HDTV broadcasts are sometimes transmitted along with analog broadcasts. In this case a totally different broadcast... Since the unwanted broadcast that gets recorded must consume space, wouldn't you think BTV could clean up the .TP file and remove it? HDTV uses enought disk space as it is ![]() I submitted this as a ticket to support, so will be very interested in what SnapStream finds... Also called ADS Tech, but the level one guy I got did not seem to be very knowledgable of .TP files. |

Re: HDTV .TP file contains TWO recordings (2 channels)!!
the TP is the entire transport stream, which can contain as many different MPEG subchannels as the broadcaster likes, usually 2 or 3.
There is no anolog included HDTVtoMPEG will strip the subchannel, though it's a manual process. |

Re: HDTV .TP file contains TWO recordings (2 channels)!!
"there is no analog included" - but VideoReDo shows the unwanted stream as analog-like. Maybe its just a digital broadcast - w/o the HD?
Any idea how much space is being wasted in a 9GB 1 hour recording? I'm going to see if VideoReDo can cut out the unwanted stream... |

Re: HDTV .TP file contains TWO recordings (2 channels)!!
Not everything digital is HD. There's I think 18 different ATSC standards, SD being one of them... gets confusing on these forums when people refer to analog tv as "SD"

Re: HDTV .TP file contains TWO recordings (2 channels)!!
The Mpeg transport stream that BTV uses carries everythig that is broadcast on that channel, including all sub channels. I asked a similar question here: HDTV file size too big on FOX

Re: HDTV .TP file contains TWO recordings (2 channels)!!
Perhaps those two networks aren't actually unrelated. For example, where I live the local FOX and CBS channels are owned by the same company and broadcast from the same studios. Unfortunately neither of them are broadcasting digitally here yet so I dunno if they would use the same channel to broadcast digitally.
