Philips PHDTV1, Zenith ZHDTV1 antenna owners take care....

Just ordered and received a Zenith ZHDTV1 indoor antenna. It is indentical to the unit that SS is including in some bundles.

While quite a performer, the antenna is exceedingly fragile.
Just a heads up so that you can avoid destroying your antenna, like I managed to:

When removing the actual antenna portion from the vertical stand , do NOT grasp the antenna to pull it out - push the antenna out of the mount from behind instead. I grabbed the antenna to remove it, but the end portion of the antenna stuck in the mount. As a result, the antenna pulled apart at the base, where the coaxial input is. That end portion came off of the antenna, and the connecting wires on the coaxial connector were pulled off as well.

I tried soldering it, but too close of quarters and flimsy materials make it nearly impossible. It's in the garbage now.

Re: Philips PHDTV1, Zenith ZHDTV1 antenna owners take care....

Very good point. Mine is in my den, sitting on a stack of books (higher is better, right?) and I have to remind my daughters (one of whom breaks everything she touches) to "stay away from the antenna!". It is pretty fragile, but for ~$20 I don't expect much. It's really only an interim solution while I figure out where to mount a Channel Masster or similar in my attic.
