Why are the files read-only?

It's just annoying, but really annoying.

Why are the files from BTV marked as read-only. and only sometimes?

Re: Why are the files read-only?

It's how BTV marks files a delete when space is needed, or delete when I choose to.. if it's read only then it's a delete manually ..

Personally I much prefer it to the old method of tagging files. You can simply select all te files and make them read only / not to change how btv should handle them.

If you don't want them read only, you can just let btv delete as space is needed and they should stay read/write.

That's a really half-a** way to do it. I don't want BTV to delete anything.

Then mark the files as delete when space is needed, but turn off the disk space management on that drive. I'd double check this, but I've managed to roger my installation. Doh.

I have been wondering the reason of those read only files too, I do agree that it is a very backward way of handling it. It should simply be saved with the description of the recording or such.

Re: Why are the files read-only?

Trust me; a couple of times of reinstalling btv and rescanning your folders; you'll REALLY be glad it's how it is. The old scheme meant you had to edit the xml or change properites on every media file one b one ... now you can just select all the files in windows explorer and change to read only/read/write etc...

The old way sucked so much....

If the concern is of losing the settings from a fresh install, maybe they should simply add a file with each recording containing all the informations about it (description, delete or not, etc.)... Would also solve their issues with the definition of "never watched" shows that keeps getting updated untill you rewatch the show again after a fresh install or if you moved the files from outside the web admin and such...

Re: Why are the files read-only?

And if you install BTV to a fresh setup with 100 media files already that btv didn't record for you? You're still stuck doing it one by one or with a text editor on the xml file after it imports..
