Recorded programs corrupted in 4.0

I have had very few problems until recently. I have had where a recorded show gets corrupted at some point early on in the recording. A 1 hour show may record for the whole hour, but only 1 min or 8 mins are seen in BTV. The file is the whole size, so for a 1 hr show I have a 3.0gb file.
Last night, I had 4 programs on two tuners (MCE 500). Both of the second shows also exhibited the same problem. Show 1 and 2 were 7pm-8pm and 8pm to 9pm on one channel, and the same timeslots for show 3 and 4 on another channel. The whole show records, only first miniute is visible. I tried opening it in other players and it usually doesn't go any farther or is choppy and exits. To me it looks like it didn't finish the save of the file at the end and corrupted, but why only save the first miniute?

A show scheduled 3 hours later that runs for 1/2 hour did work properly though.

I'm running on MS MCE, with services off, DMA on the HD is on, Data drive has plenty of room. I have a concern which has popped up on the forums before and that is the scheduler downloading the guide at stupid times and taking over the CPU. My computer is only an 800mhz, but has been recording properly until recently. Today the PC was running very weird, skipping when I'd move the mouse. I looked at the BTV scheduler and it would spike from 20% (normal) to 85% like a roller coaster. I rebooted twice and finally it stopped. Was this the guide?

I'm running 4.0, and before I upgrade to 4.1 I didn't want to add new problems. It didn't say that 4.1 fixed some of these bugs anyways.

HELP! Any thoughts?
Thanks, Jake

Re: Recorded programs corrupted in 4.0

Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem before, I can't imagine I'm the only one?

TIA...Jake

Re: Recorded programs corrupted in 4.0

The guide updater service is a well known issue and will be tackled for 4.2. In the interim, you can disable automatic updates from the WebUI http://127.0.0.1:8129/default.aspx

You can then get manual updates at your leisure until such time as we have a fix. The manual updates are not troublesome...only the incremental auto updates.

Have you gathered then, that your record problems are a result of the errant guide updater? Setting it to manual should bear out your theory.

Re: Recorded programs corrupted in 4.0

Sorry to say, it doesn't look like this is the problem. I'm going to have to open up a ticket on this one. The same exact situation occurred again, two shows back to back and all four are corrupted. The show several hours later by itself is fine.

This is a crazy problem.

I had the exact same problem just before I upraded to 4.1. I found one of my shows that was supposed to be a 1 hr recording end up only being something like 90 seconds. In my case there was no indication of a corrupt file or anything. I just noticed that the recording info on the show showed it only to be like 15 mb or something. It did play perfectly .. but it's total duration was only 1.5 minutes.

This happen ONCE a few weeks ago and never again. So I just dismissed it as a one-time quirk. But I thought I should tell you that someone has also seen that (at least once).

Re: Recorded programs corrupted in 4.0

Thanks Rich for the feedback. My shows usually show that they last 1-3 mins lately, then when they play, they may last a min or two longer, then they exit out. The full show appears to be recorded since the file will be a gig or more as expected.
