HD DirecTV setup?

Hi,
I am considering Beyond TV. I have DirecTV with a H20 receiver. I don't get any OTA HD channels at this time.

I guess I'm confused as to how the hardware would be setup in this scenario. Any clarification would be helpful.

I haven't chosen a tuner card or video card for the PC yet. Any suggestions would be appreciated...

Thanks,
John

Since the experts are away I will respond. I am looking at Direct TV myself.

The problem with direct tv is you need a box/line with box for each tuner for 5bucks each box per month it get expensive.

so your computer needs to be able to control the box/boxes. I would use the search function and compare your current direct tv box with what others are using.

right now, btv only supports ota hdtv. you can only use directv for non-hd content.

You'll still be able to record HD from DirectTV (or any other cable provider with an STB). It will be recorded as SD (using an SD Tuner) from the STB, which as posted above you'll need to controll either with an USB-IRT or a serial calble (if your STB has a serial port and it happens to be "on").

Re: HD DirecTV setup?

I've been recording from an HD DirecTV receiver for many months with a Hauppauge WinTV PVR-150. It's not true HD because the best that any capture card can do with S-Video input is 400i. However, you'll still end up with a better picture from HD than SD content and you'll get the widescreen format. My greatest frustration is OTA ATSC/HDTV channels. BTV and the Hauppauge IR blaster are unable to tune these channels. For instance, at least on my receiver, channel 5.1 requires a "." to be sent between the 5 and the 1. It can't be done currently. I can only tune the DirecTV HD channels.

Re: HD DirecTV setup?

I'm wondering how you physically connect Direct TV's H20 receiver to your PC because the H20 dosen't have a coax out on it.

Re: HD DirecTV setup?

You can use S-video or component video with component audio. Channel changing is another challenge.

I have tried the IRBlaster that comes with the PVR150 and the Beta drivers. The Beta drives do not contain a configuration for the H20 or D11 receivers I have. The closest configuration is the H10 or the D10-300. I have heard that people have been able to control the D11 with the D10-300 configuration file. I have had no luck with either the D11 or H20.

I am also going to try the serial link with a serial USB adapter. I have read on another site where someone was used the serial to USB adapter and serial tuning on the H20 http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=50902 Many more people have reported that the USB port is turned off and can't be used.

Has anyone had any luck with this and if so what profile did you use?

I've been using the PVR150 blaster with the D11 using the beta blaster driver and choosing the D10 with code 0125. The version number is
1.3.23013.

Thanks. I got the IR Blaster to work. It must have been the IR alignment
