Decoder Help & HD TV

I have an ATI x800xt card , when I try to pick a decoder in btv link settings section i have choices of a nero decoder, snapstreams decoder and a snapstream basic decoder.

Problem is that when I try to watch a 1080i program, i use video renderer set to hardware so i can use the hardware de-interlacer -- i assume it is videoshader hd) the program stutters a bit.

Question is should I be able to choose an ATI decoder somehow because I have the card and software and would that help?

720p stuff plays flawlessly using video renderer set to Overlay but setting the video renderer to hardware also causes a bit of stuttering...either I am doing something wrong or the videoshader hardware sucks here.

any help or thoughts?

Re: Decoder Help & HD TV

The last I knew, ATI decoders are made by Cyberlink, which also provides the SnapStream S/P decoder.

Frankly, I'm not all that familiar with HDTV yet, but have you tried running in exlusive F/S mode? This involves starting the BTV shell with a specific command line, and setting the appropriate resolution from the WebUI.

Have you also tried the DX9.0b quartz.dll solution for stuttering? the DX9.0c quartz.dll is defective, and will cause stuttering under the conditions of VMR9 rendering and H/W deinterlace. No satisfactory patch has been released by Microsoft yet, but you can use the quartz.dll from DX9.0b. A forum search for quartz.dll will yield the file as an attachment. You can then backup and overwrite your old one in Safe mode, or use the "Replacer" utility to do it within Windows.

Give us a progress report.

Regards,

CF

Re: Decoder Help & HD TV

3dhardware cant cope with video at those resolutions / bitratres check a look at this kb article:
http://snapstream.helpserve.com/inde...articleid=1420

and you should probably use the snapstre sp decoder over any of the others in the system because its a recent decoder and it was designed and tested to work with the hd in beyondtv

Re: Decoder Help & HD TV

I have not tried the quartz.dll solution yet but will give it a try when I get home.

Another problem in BTV LINK is viewing HD shows. They show up only in a fraction of the screen. So watching a 720p (1280x720) show on my 1680x1050 screen but not in fullscreen.

My approach to watching 720p HD content using BTV link fullscreen is to take the .TS (transport stream file) and use VideoRedo to remove commercials and then save it as a .TP stream which I then rename the extension to .TS and replace the original file(of course without commercials and half the size ). When I play this file using btv link it displays in full widescreen mode as I would expect. This approach doesnt help so much with 1080i programs since I still have the interlace problem and I don't want to run the file through a compression utility like divx or VOsub etc. since that takes a while.

So I assume that when I view my program using something like mplayer which I can de-interlace on the fly is not using the directx file since it works well?

I think quartz.dll is in the filter graph of all video playback, but mplayer probably renders in overlay.

BTVGuy is right...it might be a real stretch playing HD content in 3dmode. Most users have trouble trying to render standard def with 3dmode.

The problem is that I cannot de-interlace in overlay mode or can I? I don't really care if I run in 3d mode or overlay but I do care about de-interlacing the show as it looks terrible with interlacing.

What is it that HD hardware systems like TIVO or DVRs from cable companies have to show HD programs smoothly? Are there no pc cards that have the same sort of hardware? I do know that TVs have some built in chips to do de-interlacing and the such while PC monitors do not, could that be all that is needed? I wonder if there are any external boxes or pc monitors that could do this job.

Use overlay, it will be de-interlaced.

Is this supposed to be by default? Because if so it isn't the case for me or not for my VideoRedo transport stream.
