Strange behavior after video card upgrade
I posted this over @ the byopvr forum since this probably isn't a BTV issue.
Anyway, I've been having problems with BTV Link occasionally maxing out the CPU resulting in extremely jerky playback. Since I've been pretty much stabbing in the dark at this, I decided to upgrade my graphics card (if this doesn't fix the issue, I'll upgrade to a P4 over my Celeron). Anyway, I bought a new nVidia Geforce 6200A & swapped out the FX5200. So far, CPU util seems to be down (I use the nVidia decoder & my hunch is that the decoder will be able to unload more processing to the 6200 than it could the FX5200). Video quality seems much better in Overlay than it did before, but when I switch to 3D accelerated, I get a blank screen (audio is fine). 3D worked with the 5200 (although I didn't use it much because there was quite a bit of smearing).

I suspect the real issues I'm having is with the cheap arse mobo I installed. I had to fiddle with that thing forever (Including several BIOS flashes) to get it to even work properly (kept getting the BSOD). Anyone familiar with Foxconn? Shoulda paid a little extra for an ASUS...

EDIT: Didn't see the tag line indicating that the BTV Link system has a Celeron D -- sorry. I, too, upgraded both my video card and my tuner at the same time and had no problems with either. Personally, I use an Intel MB and an Intel CPU and haven't had any "system" problems. I've had BTV problems but nothing that would cause me to complain. I just search the forum and usually either find an answer or someone else also has the same problem which means a bug in BTV. Last edited by rander; 12-29-2005 at 06:13 PM. |
