Closed captioning question/problem

I've made 2 HD recordings with BTV. One was a CSI episode and the other was a Smallville episode last night. The CSI episode has no problems, runs full screen and no audio lag.

The Smallville episode had closed captioning the throughout the whole show, a little audio lag and the screen wouldn't always stay full screen.

I'm running the machine from the HDTV port out of my computer to a breakout pod and then component to my receiver. I am running the audio from the SB Live! to the SPDIF in on the receiver.

Any thoughts as to why CC shows up on one recording an not the other? I don't want it at all, kind of distracting.

TIA

Re: Closed captioning question/problem

First, did you record the shows with a pvr-250? I think that's the only tuner that captures closed captions. Secondly, ever since 3.7, there has been a bug where the first recording or livetv session does not capture closed captions, (after a windows boot), but all subsequent ones do until you reboot. For this to work you have to make a registry adjustment to the hauppage card. To display closed captions in btv, you need to change tryCC=1 in settings.xml, I assume it is not coming default with this value. If you use a different playback device, you have to make the changes on that device.

Re: Closed captioning question/problem

I recorded them using the AverHDTV MCE 180A.

I will check the trycc in the settings.xml when I get home this evening.

If I don't want CC then it should be set to 0, correct?

Re: Closed captioning question/problem

I found the reason. The local WB is broadcasting its own CC. It was not part of BTV.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
