What do you guys use to monitor SATA temps?

I just setup up a striped RAID array with a couple of 200gb SATA 150 drives. My normal monitoring software, HWmonitor, doesn't list them among the HD temps. Likewise, I get nothing with Speedfan. Is it not possible to monitor SATA temps with software?

Thanks

CF

Re: What do you guys use to monitor SATA temps?

It's possible, but your drives need to support S.M.A.R.T, and then your SATA controller needs to support it.

I think the problem you get is that when used in a RAID array your OS doesn't see the individual drives but a 'virtual' drive presented by the RAID controller. So you need a RAID away SMART monitor that can get the info from the RAID controller presuming it exposes it.

I have a mirrored RAID on my machine - and have the same issue. I can't see the SMART temps directly from the drives, but if I use the RAID tools that came from the mobo I can get at the info.

Have you tried MBM5 ? it might be 'raid aware'/

Re: What do you guys use to monitor SATA temps?

I have four 160s in an array and I gave up on trying to monitor the temps by software. At one point I was able to get readings with some software, the original RAID tools i think, but it always crashed and I wouldn't be able to get temp readings again unless I restarted. I say just use hardware to monitor it, it's probably more accurate anyways.

Right now I have a coolmaster cool drive 4. It has 4 temp probes, can control 4 fans, and acts as a harddrive cooler. It's going for pretty cheap at SVC - http://www.svc.com/lhd-v04-uk-19.html.
