Best encoder/decoder combo to use with ATI AIW 9600XT

What is the best encoder / decoder combination to use with a ATI AIW 9600XT?

I have a P4 1.7ghz, 512mb Ram, soundblaster card, running WindowsXP Pro.

I've upgraded to 3.7.2 version of Beyond TV.

Re: Best encoder/decoder combo to use with ATI AIW 9600XT

The goal is to improve picture quality and perfermance.

Currently I have to record at a very low quality in order for BTV to play the movies back properly.

If someone could suggest an encoder / decoder I would really appreciate it.

Since I've upgraded to the 3.7.2 should i go ahead and update my ATI display drivers to the latest version?

Install the catalyst 5.7 the new ati driver released on friday.
I am currently running the power DVD decoder, with Btv 3.5.2, and it gives me better quality then, 3.5.3 and 3.7.2, this is what i found.

Beyondtv - 3.5.2 - currently running - tv quality better
Beyondtv - 3.53 - tested tv quality not good
Beyondtv - 3.7.2 - tested tv quality not good

Decoders

Not going to get High resolution recordings with Software encodeing on 1.7Ghz . 3Ghz maybe . 2.4Ghz 352x480 .

Did you disable streaming server in web admin in the audio/video sources ? This will free some cpu for just mpeg2 enocodeing and not wmv+mpeg2 streaming+encodeing .

You might find WMV gives better picture quality at 320x240 than mpeg2 352x240 . This will sacrifice live tv pauseing though .

Re: Best encoder/decoder combo to use with ATI AIW 9600XT

thats very odd that the older versions give you better quality.

The ATI TV Recorder gives me excellent fullscreen video. I recorded some movies with it and they all looked great. BeyondTV has jerky playback.

Right now i'm using the NERO decoder, which is ok. Where can i get the Power Decoder?

I already upgraded to 3.7.2 and i noticed this morning (i go to sleep with my TV on) that BeyondTV exited sometime during the night. I wonder if it has become unstable since updating the video drivers?

any other performance suggestions you can offer?

Re: Best encoder/decoder combo to use with ATI AIW 9600XT

what resolution is the TV screen? it runs at 640x480 right?

I have a Sony Triniton 24"

I have a monitor setup and my TV hooked up too. My TV is set at 640x480 and the monitor at 1024x768.

I have a copy of the InterVideo / WindDVD program.

------

My old PVR was a AMD 2800+ 2.8 ghz, 1 gig of ram, VIA motherboard, same video card, same sound card, same hard drive. The reason why i moved to my P4 1.7ghz computer is because the AMD processor would only run at 1.2ghz. I have no idea how to make run at the right speed. I though this effected performance.

Its a mini-ATX computer too, nice case, everything is nice about it except the processor speed. any ideas on that?
