Help, IR device problems

I have an IR, OVU4003/00, that came with my new media center PC, Shuttle ST61G4. I have a Logitech Harmony 676 remote that controls everything. I could control the comcast cable box, General Instruments DCT-2224-1362/ABCDE, with both the Harmony remote and the Phillips Media Center remote. Now that I have Beyond TV, I cannot get the setup to recognize the IR. The IR still works with Media Center, but Beyond TV says that it can't find my IR and that I need to plug it in.

On the setup I choose that I have the Microsoft Media Remote, External Cable Box, NVTV capture device (it is a dual tuner, and I use tuner #1), Video Tuner Input, Channel 3 for channel output, USB-UIRT for the IR, an Unlisted Remote model, Pad Channel checked, Padded to 3 digits, Pause between transmission set to 100 (media center was set to 1200, which I tried but didn't work for Beyond TV), Repeat each button 3 times (what does this mean?). Then an error comes up that says, "There was a problem communicating with the IR device, try disconnecting and reconnecting it." I press ok, do what it says, and go through the setup again, but it gives me the same error.

What do I need to do in order for this thing to work?

Thank you.
Angie

Re: Help, IR device problems

I have a Harmony remote also. I use it with both my Beyond TV and Beyond Media. Don't know if this will help or not, but what I did when setting up the Harmony was to set it up as a replacement for the standard Hauppauge PVR-x50 remotes (they have a few different ones to choose from). The latest BTV install has (I think) the proper settings in the IRREMOTE.ini file to allow both BTV and BM to work with the Hauppauge remote. The remote I'm emulating is the 34 button silver Hauppauge remote.

It was a little confusing at first setting it up with the Harmony. If you want I can probably check my Harmony setup and give you the details. By the way, my Harmony is one of the small minimal button ones. (I wanted something simple with minimal buttons and basic navigation for the technology impaired wife) heh heh. If I remember it's the 748 model. I have a home theater and even with minimal buttons it controls everything .. both in the HT and any other IR device in the house. Because the buttons each have several functions I have an extra selection to make. But it really is the greatest thing since sliced bread. One thing I did do extra was to re-program the "zap" button to be the equiv. of the Hauppauge (back/esc) button. So using it's up/down/left/right and that button I have full navigation in BTV and BM.

Re: Help, IR device problems

Strange, I did a complete search on my system for the IRREMOTE.ini file and it could not be found.

My logitech remote works fine with everything but BTV, and that is only because BTV will not recognize the IR Blaster in the setup.

Where is the IRREMOTE.ini file located? Any other suggestions anyone?

Thanks!

Re: Help, IR device problems

The irremote.ini is installed in the C:\Winnt or C:\windows folder when you install the Hauppauge remote driver.

Re: Help, IR device problems

Yup, that's where it is. You may not be finding it if your search is excluding "system" areas etc. By the way ... if it IS missing, running the BTV setup from the "Program Files\Snapstream\ etc. folder will re-create it. This is important to know .. especially if that IRRemote.ini file has any custom edits you have done to it.

Sometime in the future you may want to re-run set up. (new guide or other change made) When you do, the existing IRRemote.ini will be replaced. When I was finished with my edited custom *.ini, I made a copy and called it IRRemote.org. So any time I had to re-run the SS setup, I could put my original IRRemote.ini back in place.

For normal stuff the stock SS version of the IRRemote.ini should suffice. I believe the latest has included BM along with BTV. When using older versions of Beyond TV you had to edit the IRRemote.ini to include Beyond Media if you wanted to control both with the Hauppauge IR remote. The last few releases of BTV however have them both already coded.

Re: Help, IR device problems

That still does not help me. I can't even get past the setup because it will not recognize the ir blaster (see above). How do I get it to recognize it? Should I get another kind of blaster? It works fine with windows media. By the way, I do not have a Hauppauge. It is the generic one that comes with the windows media (phillips made the remote and blaster; microsoft branded it...I believe).

I just want to be able to change the channels via BTV!!!
