Failed to build live tv graph

I am trying to get BTV up and running for the first time, and I get this error every time it tries to teset my channel lineup.

If I scan for the channels, it finds the correct ones, but on the next page it has no audio or video, and gives this error message.

I have a Hauppauge PVR-150 and I'm running Windows 2000.

The tv viewer software that comes with the card works fine.

I have tried installing the drivers for the card that came with the card, that came with BTV, the most recent provided by Hauppauge, and those provided on SnapStream's site. All have the same problem.

Has anyone run into this problem and found a solution?

Re: Failed to build live tv graph

How about rerunning Setup Wizard -- delete and recreate the inputs -- and see how it behaves

Re: Failed to build live tv graph

FYI I get the 'failed to create graph ' error everytime I run setup with my 250 or 500's on my win2k box. However if you just click through it it does work just fine in btv itself.

Try ignoring that error and see if it works anyway.

Re: Failed to build live tv graph

I get this on one of my 250s during setup (the rest complete setup fine), and it works ok too

Re: Failed to build live tv graph

Recently encountered the same problem. I have an ATI All-in-wonder 9800 card. BTV was working great... Microsoft Automatic update alerted me that new ATI drivers were available. Once installed BTV stopped.

I reinstalled BTV, and same problem. Checked and realized that BTV had version 3.5.2. So I tried newer version. Same problem.

So I decided to go back to the previous release of the ATI drivers. Still didn't work. Thought ok, then I need to go back to 3.5.1 BTV because I know that combo will work. WRONG. I cannot get it to work.

I've deinstalled both BTV and All ATI drivers multiple times. Even ran a registry cleaner to ensure the new install would be clean. I was thinking that it was my damn ATI card but after reading other readers having the same problems with the Haupauge WinTV cards I'm starting to think I shouldn't waste me money on a different card.

Re: Failed to build live tv graph

rerunning the setup wizard and recreating the inputs doesnt seem to help, i have already tried a full reinstall several times.

I have also tried not completing the setup wizard and going to live tv, but no success.

For those who have had this, but just 'clicked through' and had success dispite the error, can you give a little more detail? I'm not sure what you mean by click through.

Check your device manager and first check that none of your ATI devices have yellow question marks through them. If that checks out, bring up each indivdual ATI device driver properties window and see if the driver version installed, corresponds with what you think is installed. ATI drivers can be a bear to get rid of and even more problematic if you decide to go back to an earlier version. I've tried reverting to earlier WDM drivers in the past, but after running the installer, and checking the device manager upon rebooting, the newer WDMs were still installed. I think they must hide in the driver cache. You might need to use DriverHeaven.com's Driver Cleaner software...it has a special tool to rid your system of ATI WDM drivers...cached and otherwise. http://www.drivercleaner.net/

I thought I just hit ok and finished the setup wizard without worrying about the audio/video

Re: Failed to build live tv graph

I'm having the same problem. No ATI card, just Hauppage 250 card and nVidia output. I can view TV through WinTV apps but BTV doesn't see it either in the setup or running like normal.

Re: Failed to build live tv graph

I'm running into the same "failed to build live tv graph" problem after I downgraded my system from SP2 to SP1a. I did that in order to use the /pae switch so Windows would access all 4gb of memory (I recently went from 2gb to 4gb of mem). No boot.ini switch combo in SP2 would allow Windows to access more than 2.6gb... I did need to reinstall my 9800GT PCI-e video driver and dx9.0c which was necessary after the downgrade.

Anyway I'm almost to the point of reinstalling Windows. I backed-up my data files last night to a separate drive array and will likely do the clean install of SP1a Wednesday night. I'll have to read War and Peace while the main 640gb array reformats though.

Then, I'll see if BTV 3.5.3 will be able to access the 500MCE card.

The key to knowing if the "live tv graph" will work when in the wizard is that the mouse cursor will be somewhat unresponsive while BTV is trying to show that "live tv graph." Currently, the mouse moves fluidly (ie I can do fast figure-eights with the hourglass). The same "jerky mouse" used to occur whenever I started-up Live TV. Now, it doesn't do that anymore and comes up with a tuner-related error. So, just "clicking-through" the setup wizard doesn't work for me either. It's like BTV is failing to "lock-onto" the 500MCE card's tuner signal. By the way, during all these BTV and 500MCE uninstalls and reinstalls, the 500MCE card always reports to be working just fine! Never one exclamation mark in device manager. I always used HCWCLEAR with the "clear everything out" setting. So, I'm blaming BTV for now.

No fun at the moment. Just can't wait until I run into the XP64-bit problems!!

Re: Failed to build live tv graph

I've tried everything I can think of. Reinstalled XP, XP w/ sp1, XP w/ sp2, both on old (original working computer) and the new computer I tried to move everything to. AMcap.exe (WinTV app) works fine, can change channels with the 250 BTV PVR card and capture video. Just fails in BTV no matter what I do.

I'm at my wits end and BTV takes 3-5 business days to reply to any request for help and no phone number to call for tech support. Bought the BTV software with the Hauppauge card and Firefly as a package 9 months ago and everything worked great until now. Just wish I could get them to help. THey have all the logs of what BTV is doing when it fails but no luck so far. I'll make sure to post here when (if) they offer the solution.

Re: Failed to build live tv graph

Power: That's scary. Not even a clean install fixed the problem? Wow.

Hopefully, my clean install doesn't go the same...down the tubes.

But, if it doesn't work out, I'll give the "streaming server" function of BTV a try by firing up the old Compaq that my new system replaced. I just hate to spend more wattage...

Re: Failed to build live tv graph

Yes, like I mentioned, nothing I did seemed to help. I've been pulling my hair out on this one but am at the mercy of their tech support. Just wish I had some other things to try but formating the original computer and reinstalling everything from scratch should have worked.
