Nvidia dualview - TV or Monitor as Primary?

Hello,

I have BTV 3.5.2 on a P4 2.4GHz system with an Nvidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 and a PVR-150.

I just upgraded the Nvidia driver and find I now have new (working!) options with regard to the dualview setup. I operate the box with both a standard CRT and a TV connected to the GeForce4. I used to be stuck with running the TV as Primary and the CRT monitor as secondary. That is because BTV fullscreen mode used to only work on Primary.

Now I find that I can setup the CRT monitor as Primary with the TV as secondary and BTV will work full screen on the TV with 3d accelerated overlays. But! when configured ths way, I get 100% CPU and stuttering while playing back.

If I switch back to TV as Primary, I get about 25% CPU ute while playing back. Both using the SnapStream Video/SP Decoder.

I'd prefer to run with the CRT monitor as primary - makes a few things easier; e.g. login, shutdown, a few apps that refuse to pay attention to the Nvidia Desktop Manager settings.

Any ideas why I get the high CPU ute?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Well I don’t know the technical reasons for this, but here is a thread with a some advice on things to try that might help some (notice rkuo’s comments at the end of the thread)

Re: Nvidia dualview - TV or Monitor as Primary?

I always start my BTV from my computer desk, therefore I always change my NVIDIA settings to TV as Primary and CRT as Secondary. I also use overlay in playback. When I decide to use the computer again with the CRT, I change NVIDIA to CRT as Primary and TV as Secondary. It's so easy to do with the NVIDIA icon in the tray.

Sorry, I have no answer about the high CPU usage. When I use 3d accelerated mode and/or have TV as Secondary, I get lots of tearing and some jerky movement. It could be because of high CPU usage, but I'm not sure.

Re: Nvidia dualview - TV or Monitor as Primary?

One of the goals in my setup is permit use of the PC as a home PC while it is playing a show on the TV. E.g. so that my wife can check mail while I watch TV. I use the Nvidia Desktop Management stuff to relocate the start menu and task bar to the secondary (CRT). The TV is in a different room and I use an IR repeater/extender to control BTV (long svideo and audio cables).
