0MB recording before my very eyes...

I have every new episode of MythBusters set to record. However, tonight I was watching the show before it so I thought I'd just leave it paused when it started to build up some commercial skipping time while I did some other things.

So, about 20mins later, when my TS buffer ran out I hear the show beginning to play. I think that can't be right, since a recording shouldnt be using the TS buffer right? So I got to the menu->recorded shows to play it from there... file does not exist???? Next, I try to tune back the the channel and no go there- some error about it's not tuned to a valid channel or some such. Next, I use the guide to tune to a different channel (have 3 tuners) and it comes up fine, so I change to back to the Discovery channel and my screen freezes on the last frame I had on the previous channel, otherwise BTV seems to think all is fine (the info shows MythBusters). So finally, I go kill the recording and tune back to MythBusters and it's working fine- on the exact same tuner that had corrupted the recording!!!

So, it was recording fine on the TS buffer, but as soon as I tried to go to the recording it was corrupted and it wouldnt even show the channel. Kill the recording and go back to the channel- all is fine. My wife is already getting upset because it misses 2-3 of her shows weekly and I'm beginning to get annoyed as well. I'd be happy to post the appropriate log excerpt from BTV if anyone thinks it could help...

Me too. I'm waiting to upgrade from a Hauppauge 250 to a 500 until this is fixed.

Re: 0MB recording before my very eyes...

Here's a question for you guys.. when you get 0MB recordings, is there a 'failed to delete old TS buffer' error in your log near the time the recording is dispatched? I've noticed this in my last few failed recordings.

Yes. I had a failed recording last night at 8pm.

This is straight from my log:

[3/14/2005 20:01:55] Failed to delete old TS buffer: 20

Can you post when you get a response? I've had a couple of 0 MB recordings & would like to get to the bottom of it as well.

Re: 0MB recording before my very eyes...

I'm holding off "upgrading" from 3.5.1 to 3.5.2 until I hear some solid information that this has either been fixed or at *least* identified and a workaround proposed. My system is working just fine now, and while I'd like some of the minor fixes inthe latest build, I don't want them badly enough to risk having my recording screwed up, which seems to be the case for a few folks posting here. :-(

Brad.

Re: 0MB recording before my very eyes...

Don't hold your breath, we have all been waiting for weeks (months?). With a problem like this, having people (like myself) not being able to record at all.. well you basically have an unusable product. I am waiting for MCE to be delivered and will put BTV on Ebay for some unfortunate soul...

Our current in house development is focused around this and a few other issues, we're working on it.

Re: 0MB recording before my very eyes...

If you're having problems with the 0mb files, contact tech support. I did and they sent me a link for a build that fixes the problem. You may still get a 0mb file, but the recording will be listed right next to it, so you won't miss the show. It will be a week tomorrow since I installed it and so far no 0 mb files. I'm working on an issue with occasional choppy files, and tech support thinks it may be heat related. I have installed another fan this past weekend and so far no choppy files, but choppy files were not as often as 0mb (which was a daily occurence). We'll see what happens...

Re: 0MB recording before my very eyes...

So is the problem related to the PVR150 and PVR500 or is it something unrelated? I've never had the 0MB problem with my PVR250. Upgrading from 3.5.1 to 3.5.2 didn't cause me any problems. I've read some other posts which seem to indicate that if you upgrade from a 250 to a 150 or 500 and you didn't have 0MB before, you won't have it afterwards. Did anyone get an insight into this from SnapStream?

Re: 0MB recording before my very eyes...

This is appears to be not a PVR150 or PVR500 problem. I think y2kbug gave good advice.
