How to identify hardware failure?

I just started to notice that many of my recordings were very washed out almost like the brightness was way too high. I rebooted in hopes that would cure the issue but no luck there. I started to watch live TV and noticed it's the same issue. I suspect that my capture card (hauppage 250) is about to die but not sure how to confirm it. I don't have a spare card so I'm can't just swap in another. Any suggestions? Is washed out or overbright TV a sign of a failing card?

Re: How to identify hardware failure?

I trust you already checked all the coax connections?

I had the same thing and when I tightened the coax in on the Hauppauge the problem went away.

Re: How to identify hardware failure?

I did go back and move the cables around and make sure everything was tight. It didn't seem to help when watching live tv. I can try it again though.

I worry about hardware failure because the stupid Antec Overture case has always been like an oven. The cpu is at 50c idle. It's technically a fine temp but I've had the same setup run at 50c full load when in a regular tower case. My thought (or fear) was that the prolonged heat finally caused something to fail.

I will check the cables again. It is an older system so maybe it's time to upgrade. I'd hate to have to replace the pvr250 though.
