Splitter

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....8&type=product

I was wondering if this is a decent splitter. I plan on splitting my cable from the wall at least 3 time and a 4th is possible, 1 to my TV, and 2 to my HTPC (2xpvr-150MCE). The other one will either go into my kitchen (with a little work) or I'll just add another tuner to my HTPC.

I currently have the Comcast HD package with a Mitshubishi 65313.

Re: Splitter

i know some channels on my tv get staticy since the cable to my room has been slpit several times. i think splitting it reduces its signal each time. i could be wrong though

Re: Splitter

It's not just the number of splitters, but the number of splits per splitter also make a difference in the downstream signal strength. 3-4 splitters is probably pushing it, and you may end up needing an amp. Also, if one of the first splitters is bad/cheap, getting a good one at the end of the line doesn't do much good. I know that I have seen 2 GHz splitters, but I use 1GHz. Take a look on ebay to see what is available.

Re: Splitter

I have $10 off at BB so I really wanted to get this splitter if it is a quality splitter or another one from BB to be able to use my discount. Right now the cable line coming is really good so splitting it hopefully won't degrade it.

If my signal does degrade, I will end up probably getting this splitter/amp:

Re: Splitter

After seeing some noninterference using BTV I went and purchased new splitters. Previously I was using the ones installed by the Cable company, generic no markings. I found these:

http://www.monstercable.com/productPage.asp?pin=663

I have a 1-2 at the first stage (splits out the TV's and Cable modem), then a 1-4 to handle out to each room. Everything looks great. Recently I purchased a PVR-500MCE and wanted to use it with my PVR-250BTV so I put the generic 1-2 back in by my computer at the end of the line and the picture quality did not degrade.

Found the information on the splitters at www.broadbandreports.com
Here is the specific FAQ:

http://www.dslreports.com/faq/cabletech#10

Hope this helps.

Re: Splitter

Hi guys,

On the topic of splitters - how do you get the Beytond TV with a dual or multi-tuner setup to record two different channels at once through a cable box? Do you need two separate cable boxes?

Lets say you have two cable boxes and you are using a USB-UIRT how do you keep the device from changing the channle on both boxes when it changes it on one?

Is there a thread on this topic or a knowledge base answer somewhere?

Thanks,

Dan

Re: Splitter

You'll need multiple cable boxes. When you use the cable boxes the "tuner" cards are really only acting as Video Capture devices they aren't tuning in the signal. I run basic cable so I'm not sure of the specifics but you'll probably need X number of cable boxes and an IR controller for each.

Ok, so under this scenario, I have multiple cable boxes. Are you saying I can't use the USB-UIRT to control the multiple boxes? I need a separate IR blaster (like the Actysis) for each cable box?

Re: Splitter

I'm not sure about how to controll the cable boxes. I know the USB_UIRT will do it but I don't know if one will controll multiple boxes or not. It's just something I haven't had to play with since I run straight cable. Sorry

Re: Splitter

Do a search on "multiple zone" I think this thread has what you need:

Anyone using more than one USB-UIRT with BTV?
