9600 all-in-wonder setup HELP!!

Heya,

I'm installing BTV on a machine with a 9600 All-In-Wonder card. The playback is all choppy and crappy on hardware accelerated mode and I know that needs to be hardware accelerated for timeshifting etc..

I'm curious what the best encoder and settings etc are for the all-in-wonder card.

I just can't seem to get it smooth. Help!!

Oh and it also seems to keep playing sound after I close the window wow , talk about annoying haha , let mek now if you have any answers.

Hey Josh, sorry- I jumped to conclusions

What codecs are you using? Do you have to be in overlay?
I am able to get the 9600 with good picture in 3d mode with no problems and as far as overlay- the snapstream basic decoder worked pretty good.

I am no longer using the 9600 AIW card now but I am still using an ATI card (I switched it for my 9600XT so I could use the DVI cable)

Let me know your settings so I can try to duplicate it using my ATI card if you are still having trouble.

Re: 9600 all-in-wonder setup HELP!!

Have a look at this thread about ATI 9800:
Picture Quality w/ 9700 Pro AIW

And for the other thrads in that one, don't forget to change discuss2 to forums in the html link to be able to open the relevent article.

Quality with ATI AIW is a matter of your CPU, using ATI's latest decoder and being reasonable while encoding. I get nice results with my 9800 AIW Pro, with some artifacts on fast motion.

Re: 9600 all-in-wonder setup HELP!!

The system is as follows:

AMD 3200
1gig OCX pc3200 Dual Data Rate 400
9600 AIW

Using the WinDvD Decoder at the moment with Overlay because without overlay and using either decoder "windvd or either btv decoders" looks krappy.

If you have the actual WinDVD codec, check out what I did to my system...I'm quite happy with it's results- they are not perfect but they are close enough for satisfaction.

Happy Solution- ATI Video Playback User

Your setup is relatively close to mine. Let me know if this works.

Re: 9600 all-in-wonder setup HELP!!

Darren , I did follow your post from the beginning, however, When I'm in 3d accel mode, it looks pretty bad and studders alot. This is all over vga , and overlay looks beautiful.

I didn't know you couldn't timeshift in overlay mode...I just tried it.

Also, I'm sure you are using the lastest drivers but you may want to look into trying the latest Omega drivers (http://omegadrivers.net)
Using the omega driver, there is a tab which allows you to set 3d options. I set mine to vertical sync "Always ON" (because I'm using a 720p timing).
Also in my case, I have the nForce2 north/southbridge chipset and stuttering was a big problem before I updated my nForce multifunction drivers.

That's weird how you can't get a clean playback using 3d...I know how you feel about right now.

Please let me know what you did when you find a fix, I'm curious to know.

P.S. nVidia is now offering a trial period for their DVD Decoder software. I'll try that when I get back home from the store.

Re: 9600 all-in-wonder setup HELP!!

I'm going to try to find a nforce upgrade right now. Perhaps that might help. I'm also going to attempt the omega drivers as well as the other decoders "nvidia's and ati's" I'll keep you posted you do the same for me

and btw , yah , for some reason , when you're in overlay , the card defaults to live only *shrugs*

Re: 9600 all-in-wonder setup HELP!!

Just in case... make sure your anti-virus software has the proper directories skipped-

I went and checked mine and found out I didn't have the required Snapstream (located in Documents and Settings) folder skipped.
In doing so, my ATI cyberlink video codec seems to work like a charm now.

I tested out my video recording settings and also found that using "DVD Stream" instead of "Program Stream" will deliver less than satisfactory results.

I'm going to make a thread with a checklist of things that will wreak havoc on video playback when I get some time. This should help out other users.

Let me know if by chance this fixes your problem...

EDIT:
Un-Official ATI Video Playback Checklist

I went as far as re-installing BTV (leaving my recorded shows intact) and I made a check list before moving on. Unless it's my imagination- my picture has never looked better. Motion artifacts are at a minimum though still exist.
