Multiple Users and Scheduled Recordings

Trying a post as my direct email was not addressed.

Apparently, with Windows XP - SnapStream Version 2.0 does not record scheduled recordings if that user is not the active user of the PC.

For example - I schedule a recording. Everything works fine provided I do not switch to the Welcome Screen or to another user. If I do that, no recording is created - the log states, "Cannot render video preview stream."

Did I misconfigure the software? Thanks for any help you can offer

WHat are your system specs? what tuner card are you using? We have seen this problem occur on ATI cards.

What else do you need to log this problem as a bug? I can repo it on demand now.

Provided I do not enable my screen saver (which defaults to taking users back to the Welcome Screen) and no other users are logged on, a scheduled recording will run.

Are you saying this problem does not occur on Windows XP for non-ATI video cards?

I can confirm that for you.

My system is XP Pro, 1Ghz, Hauppauge TV card. My system reverts to the password-protected welcome screen after 10 minutes (via screen saver), but scheduled recordings will complete without incident.

Thanks for the reply.

So Amit - can you repro with my hardware or do you have other recommendations? Currently all is working provided I do not enable the screen saver or log on as another user or just go back to the Welcome screen.

Would really like to see this problem resolved.

With the card you are using, this is definitaly a reproducable problem. We have been talking to ATI about this for a while but nothing ever seems to be resolved from their side. All we get from them is that they are working on the problem. The best solution for you might be for you to purchase a hauppauge WinTV go card. It runs for about $50.

As to multiple user XP configurations and the Software, I have several questions.

Will SnapStream still record if:

1) another user is logged in?

2) no users are logged in to the local machine?

Before I buy - I want to make sure that the shows I program in are actually recorded regardless of who is logged in to the machine or even if no one is logged in (but the machine is on).

EDIT on PBmax is correct unless you run the service (which many people have it working with out any problems. we also have people who can not get it to work right)EDIT OFF

yes if you are not useing the ATi capture card. The ATi cards have trouble after Windows goes to screen scaver mode or the power save mode.

Sorry patrick but No. 2 is wrong. If you aren't logged in then SSW doesn't ever start. So the recording will never happen. If you setup the program in service mode then it will. But the service fuctionallity is limited and is buggy. (it is a feature in 2.0 but not a released feature ie. Use at your own risk)

Thank you.

I do have a ATI-TV Wonder. From the posts - I expect that will be a problem.

Also - how do you set it up as a service? Is the process listed anywhere? In another post/tech bulletin?

Thanks again.

Here is the link on how to set it up as a service. Please let us know how it goes if you decide to try it as a service.

Thanks again. The service installed great and is working. However, I am experienceing a playback problem on other computers that was occuring even with recordings made prior to installing as a service:

Thanks for any assistance.

Dusitn

BTW - Being able to install this as a service is the KEY feature for me considering the product (well - that and making sure it works ;-) ) Thanks for your assistance. Great product - just some kinks to iron out.

Dmets,

What drivers are you using with the ATi card? (WDM or VFW)
also what is the preview pin setting set to?
( configure -> video sources -> edit -> preview pin... enable or disable???)

WDM drivers (directshow)

I however have found a problem with the service - TitanTV scheduling will not work when SS is instaled as a service. (unless I am doing something wrong - and please let me know).

Dustin
