Video issues

I need some help! ... Well you know, assistance with my PVR project...

I have been able to get BTV 3.5 up and running but the Live TV and DVD recordings off of DirecTV are only 'VCR quality'.

I have made sure all hardware components are updated. (video card, sound card). I have set recordings, WEB admin, to best DVD quality. I have adjusted the video settings in WEB admin. But the quality of the picture isn't DVD quality. The colors are washed out and the picture isn't as sharp and brilliant as any other DVD recording.

Am I expecting too much from the this PVR project? Or do I have some software or hardware problems I need to deal with?

Dell Dimension 3000 3.0 GHz P4 Hyper thread, 1 GHz DDR ram, ATI 9200 SE (PCI card), Hauppauge PVR-250BTV, BTV 3.5, Firefly, Audigy 2 sound card, 160 GB HDD, DVD-RW drive, Windows XP Home. I have Nero 6.0 suite installed also.
