Who here has tried SageTV?
I have BTV3.5 up and running, after a few weeks of a rather steep learning curve. It seems to be running as well as it could do. I have XMLTV working great too.
Curiosity got the better of me though and I downloaded SageTV to try, as a comparison. I'd just like to put down a few observations. Firstly Sage is quicker in every way, menus, changing channels starting up, changing window mode etc. Video is smoother, and has no stutters in liveTV at all. You can browse the TV guide with livetv still running. This is important to me, as I would often like to see what else is on, but don't want to loose my buffer/podition on the current show I am watching. CPU usage is down by around 10-20% I am sure it has its own problems, and I haven't attempted xmltv importing yet, but so far I think it is much more user friendly Being that SageTV is probably the number one competition for BTV, I wonder if anyone from SS have bothered to try a copy out?? From the way 3. works it doesn't look like it. Anyway thats just my opinion. But I have to say I am considering swapping over.... Rant over. Regards Jamie |
