Post Black screen with sound when recording VHS quality

Hello,

at this moment i am reviewing the snapstream software and i am quite pleased with the features.

default recording is near VHS and this works fine. But when I change it to VHS, or for example IPAQ High quality the result is a file with sound but without screen (black). Does anybody has any pointers how to fix this?

My card is a Hauppauge PCI card.

Thanks in advance,

Matthijs

can you list your system specs please?

CPU type and speed,
Operating System (Win98/98SE/ME/2000/XP),
Tuner card model,
Driver type (WDM or VFW),
Sound card type,
DirectX version,
Detailed description of the problem: Have you noticed if the VHS recording was 588 mins long?

Hai Patrick,

Sorry for posting in the wrong board.

here are the answers on your questions.

P4 1800Mhz
Windows XP Pro, (all latest patches)
Hauppauge WinTV PCI card
WDM drivers (latest version from Hauppauge)
CMI8738/C3DX PCI audio device (Onboard with Asus motherboard)
DirectX 8.1

When the recording is black it is indeed 588 minutes.

i tried to do some testing which qualities work and which don't.

I did VHS, it didn't work, I did single iSDN, it worked, i did Cable/DSL Low it worked, I did DUAL ISDN it worked, but AFTER that I did VHS again and it worked as well! ??>

They were all 1 minute recordings.

Don't know why the VHS is working and the others, beacuse yesterday they turned up blank.

Matthijs

PS my email is matthijs@hoekstra.com if you need more info.

Ok next question (sorry)

Do you get a 588 recording after a reboot/bootup?

On thing you can try is to remove all the Hauppauge drivers using this clear program from Hauppauge http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw...8/hcwclear.exe
now....
Remove snapstream using this:</font></li>[*]<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Monaco, Sansserif">do a full un-install of SnapStream from add/remove programs
(Make sure you move files that you recorded before continuing, if you want
to save them.) They are saved on the local hard drive. "C:\Documents and
Settings\All Users\Documents\SnapStream" this is the default location. You
can see the path if you go to Configure -> Stores -> and edit the "Common"
store ( the "Common" store is the default for where SnapStream places the
recorded file).
(make sure you have view hidden files and folders on)
Do a search on your PC for SnapStream and delete all the files and folders
the search finds. Ensure you get everything in this folder (these are the
*.dat files)C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Snapstream\PVS
</font></li>[*]<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Monaco, Sansserif"> Install the Hauappauge drivers only. Do not install the Hauappauge wintv2000 software. use these drivers: http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw...m331_20061.exe</font></li>[*]<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Monaco, Sansserif"> reinstall SnapStream </font></li>[*]<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Monaco, Sansserif"> close down snapstream before you do the below install</font></li>[*]<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Monaco, Sansserif"><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Monaco, Sansserif">Install Windows Media Redistributable 7.1
Link: http://www.snapstream.com/download/wmedist.exe

Now try out snapstream again and let me know what happens

Ok patrick,

I uninstalled everything following your instructions.

Reinstalled it.

First time i record a 1 minutes show at VHS quality. I got this 588 minute movie with black screen
did another recording at near VHS quality. Worked ok. Recorded another VHS quality, and now it works.

Stopped Snapstream, tried the VHS again, it worked.

Rebooted the machine. Recorded VHS quality, it worked!
Tried different qualities, all worked, so it seems its working now, I can't explain the first 588 thing. Probably some initialisation of the Hauppauge card??

Hope this can help.

Congrats Matthijs!

Wish the same recommendation would have worked for me. I went through that process (total uninstall/reinstall) about 5-6 times and could never still get it to work.

(sigh)

I've had the same problems and i think I might have fixed mine.

I have an Athlon 650/256MB Ram with a PCI WinTV card running on XP Pro and ran the driver reinstal but still got the black recordings

I thought I was getting those blank recordings at random them one day I realized that I always got them after I had either watched TV with the WinTV application or used my webcam (composite input).

Its not a good fix, I can't use the TV app or webcam without a reboot before my next recording but it seems to work for me. I guess if this wasn't a cobbled together computer with a 3yr old WinTV card I would be more concerned.
