Unexpected error

I am a new user and I am confused, many broken links here! " How to make a DxDiag Report" link is a 404 error, and the tech support email link on the support page is also bogus.

I installed everything fine, but... on registering the Snapstream software, Snapstream.net setup: unexpected error, please click the back button to restart the account wizard. I tried it 7x, no luck.

Any ideas?

Unhappy Re: Unexpected error

Yeah, I had the same problem. I wonder if their server is down?

I was trying to register my second copy (I bought 2 in Dec., and just got the second computer setup this weekend), and get the same problem.

I get to the Finalize screen, hit next, and it doesn't take. It creates an account for the EPG, but everything is screwed up and I can't register. I submitted a support request.

Hopefully they just need to reboot

Exactly!

Yes, exactly! I am so close to getting this software/hardware functioning. think. I'm new to this computer video stuff and I see that there is a lot to learn. Got my first computer 8x DVD (NEC) last week, and enjoyed a few hours of watching DVD, although they were very dim.

Gosh, I hope this works...

Re: Unexpected error

Exactly what page are you looking at that your seeing tech support stuff that is pointing to a 404. the tech support request page is here:
http://www.snapstream.com/Support/TechSupportEmail.aspx
and all the links on that page are working and are pointing at the new knowledge base system. Technical support does not have a direct email address, you must use that form to submit a request.

Re: Unexpected error

Here's one I noticed from this link:

http://snapstream.custhelp.com/cgi-b...user/entry.php

Try to click on discussion forum. It goes to dead (old?) site.

Re: Unexpected error

Yes, I have received no reply yet. Frustrating since this is my 2nd copy and the first one works fine.

Re: Unexpected error

OK, I banged around a little bit and here's what I found.

I uninstalled, killed everything snapstream-related in the registry (don't try this at home), and tried to reinstall. It still failed to register me.

So I ran "netstat -a 1" This dumps all the active connections every second.

When I got to the signup stuff, I noticed a couple of related connections (rlyeh is my machine):

TCP rlyeh:4845 64-9-150-139.hou.texas.net:http TIME_WAIT
TCP rlyeh:4911 64-9-150-139.hou.texas.net:https ESTABLISHED

hou.texas.net is registered to tucows. Is snapstream using tucows for registration? If so, that may be where the problem is.

I'm posting this info to my support request as well.

Re: Unexpected error

that resolves to 64.9.150.139 wich is the web interface for the guide servers (www.snapstream.net) i belive that tucows is the hosting for the colo facility. The .net guys are working on it and if you have a request into the tech support system you will get a response this morning when they get into the office.

If you are having this error and have not already filled out a tech support request do so as soon as possible:

hou.texas.net is the Houston colocation facility for Texas.Net, where our Snapstream websites and guide data servers are located. Tucows doesn't own Texas.Net, no no, we don't use Tucows for registration. What you are seeing is a reverse dns entry for the IP address reported from the Texas.Net dns servers that the Snapstream.Net website uses. Your netstat indicates you are connecting to www.snapstream.net via HTTPS which is correct for what you were doing at the time.

It almost sounds like to me that maybe something's wrong with your .Net account, but I don't handle that so I can't make that determination, but yes, you are connecting to the servers fine by what your netstat shows.
