Remote internet viewing
How do I access beyond TV remotely. My server is on a cable modem and do I need the outside IP address?
The Beyond TV manual says to access Web Admin by http:\\<ip address>:8129. This works on my home LAN where I know the IP address of the server. How do I access my home server from my hotel room when I am traveling. Appreciate network adressing help. |

Re: Remote internet viewing
you would need to:
a) Know the public ip address of the computer/device connected to the internet b) Know that this ip address may rotate/change at any given time (depends on the ip address) it is strongly suggested that for something like this you check into dynamic dns services like dyndns.org c) if behind a firewall/router, you puch holes for the ports needed for beyondtv to work (8129, 8080, 1755 (all tcp)) d) connect from your "hotel room" using IE: http://public.ip.address:8129 e) Know that some ISP's consider that running "servers" is against their acceptable use policy, and most after the waves of worms and viruses have blocked access to their customer's computers from the outside world |

Re: Remote internet viewing
You need to know your ip address.
Start/Run/cmd. In DOS window, type "ipconfig" hit return. It'll give you your ip. (Use the one that doesn't start with 192.168.xxx.xxx Access BTV byt typing ip:8129. Next, you may want to use an ip redirector service and a free (or paying) client. I use www.dyndns.org. THere are many other such services. That way your computer updates the service when the ip changes, and you always enter an easy to remember url. Like http://mycomputername.dyndns.org:8129 I advise you try this from home with your laptop through a router so you can see how your firewall reacts. I had to authorize specific connections in mine. You want to have this setup before leaving on a trip Of course don't forget to put a password on BTV (from web admin settings). Eric

Re: Remote internet viewing
Any tips for allowing specific ports? I have mine all set up with a D-link DI-624 router and a dyndns.org account but it doesn't work. I have Verizon DSL, wondering if that's one of those ISPs that block everything.
I have a virtual server running at private and public port 8129 with my private LAN address. Then I have Beyond TV set as an application triggered by port 8129 to open ports 1755 and 8080. I can't access anything from outside my LAN, and even inside my LAN, I can only access the web admin page but not see Live TV or recorded shows on another computer within my LAN.
