Red face Audio Sync (Ahead of Video by 3 secs)

I am having major problems with the audio sync in BTV, its anywhere from 3 to 10 secs ahead of the video.

Its driving me nuts!!!! I can't use BTV due to this fault I have tried everything I can thing of, reinstalling BTV (even downgraded to SS 2.0), reinstalling WinTV USB drivers and software and finally I formatted the hardrive which appeared to fix it for first attempt then it went out of sync again.

I use BTV from overseas so I can watch UK TV so its quite important to us, local TV terrible!!!!

I would really appreicate any help anyone could offer in my hour of need.

Re: Audio Sync (Ahead of Video by 3 secs)

This is a lame response but from knowledgebase:
Problem
A user noted that audio and video became progressively more out of sync while watching either live TV or recordings using MPEG2, the default file format.

Solution
First, defragment the hard drive where Beyond TV stores video files. Use the utilities provided on your Windows operating system or third-party software.

Try watching video again to see if this corrects the problem.

Second, run a spyware removal utility to ensure that your machine has all resources available to devote to the applications that need them - in this case, Beyond TV.

Third, consider adding RAM to the machine running Beyond TV.

Thanks for the help Leaf, but with a system which has just been completely reformatted, all their possible solutions really have been achieved already.

I don't understand things have progressively getting worse the more upgrades to BTV arrive. I think I had more success when it was SS 2.0!!!

BTV tech support must really come to the party with this as I fear its putting many people off and losing them business.

Re: Audio Sync (Ahead of Video by 3 secs)

Have you tried recording to WMV instead of MPEG? I know this use to be an issue many moons ago with teh software encoders. As far as I remember though this only happened when you tried to burn the MPEGs to DVD. Many of us went with hardware encoders, I know thats not what you want to hear, but a hardware encoder can save you many headaches.

Wink Re: Audio Sync (Ahead of Video by 3 secs)

Dear all,

I think I have found the problem. we have a wireless network running between the two machines in the house and when we unplugged it and rebooted with no network it seem to be all ok. its either a conflict in the USB side of things as both are being driven off USB or system can't cope with processing the network and BTV at the same time.

I am interested in this hardware encoder, what does this entail?

I am going to change the TV card to a PCI one so as to take out the USB side of it, that has always been a bit problematic. Hopefully this will sort out the problem.

Its funny the people who end up hassling the most are those with software encoders, and nearly always, right after they get all the problems solved and working they then decide to upgrade to a hardware encoder. My suggestion save yourself the grief and readthis. Although that thread is referring to ATI cards (which all are software encoders) it can pretty much applies to upgrading from any software encoder including the USB one your using.

You mentioned trying a PCI version, this is really a moot point. If you want better performance you should try a hardware encoder it could be USB or PCI really as that should not make a difference. As Leaf mentioned I have a USBPVR2 running on my system, but I also have a PVR250 running. I can not tell a difference from either one in terms of quality, performance, and cpu usage.

Also if you, or anyone else, is still experiencing audio lag issues after referring to the lame KB article above, please feel free to contact us through the webform at http://www.snapstream.com/support/, where either me or Robert can tear the system apart to find the problem.

Audio can lag for several reasons as mentioned previously, or also for more "unique" reasons such as overclocking the machine.

Re: Audio Sync (Ahead of Video by 3 secs)

You guys might want to consider where you're plugging the audio in and out, and also how are you connecting the video/audio to the system....

With a software setup, you would have one of the following:

1) Standard Cable in to capture device, audio cable out from capture card to recording (line or mic) of sound card/motherboard.

2) Line in to composite on capture board, audio directly to the sound card (failure to do it this way will give you the audio delay if you are set up this way!) IR/Serial control of cable/sat box

3) Line in SVID on capture board, audio directly to the sound card (again, NOT to the capture card directly, this = delay!!) IR/Serial control of cable/sat box

4) USB "Software capture" Devices - cable in to usb device - audio out to sound card OR sound capture is directly through USB, but do not have both configured at the same time. This could also be a driver issue. If you have a USB Pro, I'd suggest using sound over USB mode highly!
