How does BTV decide what shows to expire?

I had always thought that BTV would auto-expire shows when space was required based on the oldest, watched shows first, then oldest not-watched shows, etc.

However, I just noticed that this does not seem to be the case. I had several espisodes of Starget SG-1 recorded over the last couple of weeks (10 episodes, actually.) It seems that I ran low on space, and BTV deleted the first 3 of those episodes, which had not been watched (they were all still marked as new.)

However, there were quite a few shows that were much older (several months old) that did not get deleted first (a mix of watched and not-watched shows.) I would have expected those much older shows to get deleted before these fairly recently watched shows.

So how does BTV decide which shows to delete first? I can't seem to find any support info that would explain this behavior.

It would also be nice if there were some sort of "long term" log so I could go in and see exactly when these shows were deleted, but the BTV log only seems to go back about 24 hours.

If you go in your C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\SnapStream\Beyond TV you'll see all your logs. 1 per day.

I always thought the expiration logic was the one you indicated. Apparently not.

Re: How does BTV decide what shows to expire?

when you upgrade/reinstall beyondtv it will mark all existing content as "keep until deleted" the default deletion is to delete the oldest files that are mark as "keep until space", that arent marked as "read-only" by the file system in each folder until sufficient free space is available. Files that have the read-only attribute, or that are flagged as "keep until delete" will NOT get touched.

Re: How does BTV decide what shows to expire?

Ahhh, that was it. Several of the older shows were (for some unknown reason) marked as "read only" on the NTFS filesystem. So even though they were marked as "Keep until room is needed" by BTV, they were read-only on the file system, so were not auto-expired when room was needed.

Thanks for the tip (and thanks for pointing out the location of the archived logs! To add insult to injury, I see that a couple of the Stargate episodes got deleted to make room for Young and the Restless. My wife needs her own BTV box :-)
