Scheduled Recordings don't record full hour

Has anyone figured out how to correct the issue where a scheduled recording doesn't record for the full time it was scheduled for? I've got a dual PIII/866 with 1GB RAM / 160 GB Raid / ATI Radeon AIW hooked to a DSS receiver. No all the shows that I scedule for an hour only end up with 12 -18 minutes. If I look at the log it seems as if the software thought it was recording for the full hour, but the video file is always a fraction of the total time I intended.
The funny thing is it worked fine for a week and then stopped working and *nothing* on the system was changed.

It's just a shot in the dark, but did you put a limit on the size of the store under Configure -> Store -> Edit?

Could be there is a limit there that doesn't allow enough harddrive space to record a whole hour.

No it is set to '0' which it says is disable and is set to the default size of 512MB for Free Space to leave on the drive. I've got 147GB free space...

Is your screen-saver and power settings all turned off? Do any of these kick in during the recording?

All Off. I schuled a recording last night and watched the log as it went about its task. The channel changed at the right time and the recording started, the icon in the tray stayed red for the hour it was supposed to be recording. After the hour the log indicated that it stoped recording and then processed the file. When I got the notificotion that the program was ready to watch I went to look at it --all 2 minutes 13 seconds of it!

Help...

Last night I uninstalled and then reinstalled, and was surprised to find that my channel settings/stores/etc were still there. Where are the preferances stored??? I'd like to do a clean install

redwards:

The screensaver kicking in is a problem with ATI cards since ATI has a non-standard way of capturing video which the screen saver interferes with.

Patwarn:

What if you schedule a show for 30 mins does that work? WHat if you do a record now for 60 mins does that work? The problem you are having should go away once you turn off your power options and screensaver?

To perform a clean install remove the following directories upon uninstall:

Win98/ME:
C:\windows\all users\application data\snapstream
C:\windows\all users\documents\snapstream (This dir might have shows in it, so delete at your own discretion)

Win2000/XP:
C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\snapstream
C:\documents and settings\all users\documents\snapstream (This dir might have shows in it, so delete at your own discretion)

emadow:

Do you also have an ATI card? WHat are your system specs?

I put my specs up there.. I do not have an ATI card. Im using the Pinnacle PCTV card with the beta tuning drivers, though that shouldn't affect anything. Perhaps it is the screensaver though? Anyway to disable it only during recording? Is that even it? Thanks. Evan

In fact I tested it and it is my screensaver/power management interrupting the proccess. Anyway to disable it JUST while recording then re-enable afterwards?

Manually?
Why not disable auto-screensaver and get one of those programs that turns it on when you leave the mouse in one corner?

You can disable your screen saver through your display properties, then create a shortcut for your screen saver to your desktop. Click when needed....

Many thanks for the replies. Perhaps a "disable screensaver while recording" option could be implemented in a future release?

Thanks!

Arrow I'm having the same problem

Hi,

I see this is an old thread but I am having the same problem. The log file and file time stamp indicate the recording went the full hour, but the actual file is only about half the size it should be. What is the story with the screen saver/power settings? I'm not certain that my screen saver is causing the problem, but I have not disabled it. I guess it is not too much trouble to turn them off and just shut off the monitor when I'm not using it, but it would be nice to diagnose and fix the problem...I have a Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250 card.

Thanks,
Andy
