Unable to play mpg files on non-BTV system

To help me burn time during lunch breaks I have taken to putting my BTV MPG files onto my portable hard drive and taking them to work.

I am able to play the WMV files without a problem. However I am unable to play the MPG files. All shows are recorded in Best mode. When I try to play them in WMP9 all I get is audio and no video.

I have read the KB article: http://kb.snapstream.com/Kb.aspx?kbid=1143 but that article is telling me to either encode to WMV or to install BTV.

Is there some other workaround?

The problem is the system you are trying to play the mpegs back on probably does not have an mpeg2 decoder installed on it. And the reason SnapStream cant give a download for this codec is because it is not a free codec. So what I have done in the past is install some form of dvd software and that will enable you to play back the mpegs.

I think I have been able to play back btv’s mpegs using powerdvd, but off the top of my head I cant remember what dvd programs will give you the mpeg coedec so you can play the files back in wmp9.
