Just got everything installed - quality stinks! What am I doing wrong?

I've got decent hardware:

CPU: AMD 2400+ Barton
512 RAM
Hauppauge PVR-250 decoder

The picture is very washed out, and there is a noticeable stutter in the picture. The motion isn't smooth at all, it looks like frames are missing or something.

I read the thread about adding new High Quality 3.25GB/hour settings, which I did, but it didn't seem to help much. What else could be wrong?

I noticed in the thread linked above it says:
Quote:
PS while you're in the wb admin go to Configure, Advanced Settings, Player Settings and make sure the Preferred MPEG-2 Decoder is not the Default. If it is change it to InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder for Hauppauge (or other decoder you have) and make sure the De-Interlacing Mode is set to None if you are outputting to a TV set in "normal resolution".
I don't have this decoder listed, all I can choose is "default". Are these instructions still valid?

Also, I don't have any of the registry settings mentioned in the thread!

That decoder comes with the PVR-250. It sounds like things aren't installed correctly on your system. If I were you I would download the current version of all software needed off of Hauppauge's website and re-install.

Something's very wrong. On the Hauppage site they tell you how to unsintall everything nicely, then I suggest you follow the instructions in this post to reinstall your PVR correctly.
