XP, WinTV Go and SS 1.5 - Sound Missing (and it ain't the line in being muted!)
I've read through the posts and nothing seems to help. Maybe one of you veterans can help a green SS user like myself.
The Problem: Sound and video are 100% when running WinTV2000 (the Hauppauge TV app). When recording using SS PVS 1.5, video is fine, but the sound is missing. The Config: - Windows XP w/Plus Pack - Hauppauge WinTV Go with radio tuner - Using XP 3.17 driver for WinTV audio and video - Hercules Prophet 4000XT 32MB video card - Using the XP 1.0.9.31 drivers - TurtleBeach Santa Cruz sound card - Using the XP/2k drivers v. 5.12.1.4112 - Pentium 4 1.7GHz - 256 MB RAM - Configed SS PVS 1.5 hardware setup wizard to the following settings: no password, Capture Card: Hauppauge WinTV Capture, Capture Interface: DirectShow, Tuning Interface: Hauppauge WinTV PCI Series, Preview Pin: Disabled, set the capture device to Video Tuner, Scanned cable and it found my channels. What I Tried: In the hardware configuration wizard, no matter what "Playback Line" I choose, no sound comes out. No static either. I am POSITIVE that my Lin In volume is set to max and that it's not muted in any way. Sound on the Santa Cruz is working for any other application flawlessly. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the WinTV drivers a few times and even reinstalling the SS 1.5 software. No difference in behavior. I'm so close to getting this to work, that I can taste it. Please send me any tips that might get this app running! TIA! -RalphyBoy

It is an older version, this hauppauge site talks about using them as an alternative:
http://www.hauppauge.com/xp/faq.htm Although I found that when I used them the volume was extremely low even when just watching with WinTV apps. If I used the AudioSel.exe I found that tuning the "radio source" what increase the volume but it wouldn't stick if I changed channels. I'm hoping 1.55 will be release soon so I can use the WDM drivers. |

That did it! Unfortunaletly, the quality of the diplay is significantly worse with the VFW driver. The WDM is crisp and very responsive while the VFW driver I downloaded from Hauppauge has pronounced graininess and some border interference. *Sigh* At least it works, I guess. Thank you for all the help!
Bring on SS 1.55!!! ![]() -RalphyBoy

No prob! Here's what I did:
1) Visit the Hauppauge web page and download the VFW (Video for Windows) driver @ http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/softw.../w2kdrv311.exe 2) Unplug any Internet access from the XP machine. XP downloads a bum version of the WinTV Go from its driver site without you knowing it. 3) Open up your device manager and right click on each of the two Hauppauge devices under "sound and multimedia" and click "Uninstall". Once that's done, for good measure go ahead and run Hauppauge's HWCLEAR utility (it should be in the WinTV2000 application directory) to clear out anything you may have missed related to the driver. 4) Restart the machine. 5) When the machine comes up (remember, keep that Internet access cut-off for now), it will bring up some prompts about new hardware devices found. Cancel these windows. Cancel them and feel good about yourself as you stop Windows from being so smart it's stupid by installing bad drivers. 6) Open device manager again and DELETE the two "Unknown" devices. This step is very important. Exit device manager 7) Run the driver install executable that you downloaded in step #1. 8) Restart the computer when prompted and follow the install questions along as the system adds the final touches to the new driver installs. 9) *** CRITICAL *** Remember, the Victoria Secrets runway show is on at 9PM EST on ABC, so what better way to test?!? Rock and roll! Let me know if you have any other issues, but this worked fine for me. Its certainly uglier than the WDM (Windows Driver Model) but it will keep you entertained until the real deal SS PVS comes out later this month. Adios! -RalphyBoy
