Question using ViaM onboard mpeg decoder and haupage 250 decoder/encoder

Problem:
I am getting slow choppy playback of recorded shows while recording live tv or converting to divx.

Questions:
1. Can the haupage 250 hardware encode and decode at the same time?
2. Does converting from mpeg2 to divx use the hardware mpeg encoder or decoder on the haupage card?
3. I would like to be able to setup SnapStream playback to always use the hardware mpeg decoder on my ViaM mother board to watch mpegs. This way watching recorded shows should be smooth no matter how taxed the processor is while encoding live tv using the haupage encoder or convirting to divx using the processor.

Does anyone know if this is possible and if so can you assist me in the configuration

The PVR-250 only does encoding. Decoding is done in software and/or asissted by video card hardware.

the onboard epia video device will not work with beyondtv epia systems will give poor playback performance with their onboard device and marginal results with an added video card (if you can find one with 2 pci slots)

whenI watch DVDs the playback is awesome even when snapstream is recording live TV. When I use winamp to playback recorded mpegs the results are more then acceptable even when snapstream is recording live tv.

you are sure there is no way to tell snapstream about the available hardware mpeg decoder so it can use it?

Thanks

nope, this has been an issue since pvs/btv started using 3rd party decoders, it might get resolved in 3.5 with the new overlay support but I doubt it.

Re: using ViaM onboard mpeg decoder and haupage 250 decoder/encoder

I beg to differ. I'm using an EPIA M1000 with a PVR250 and have smooth video, even while recording, with low CPU usage. You need a MPEG2 decoder that can use the EPIA's DVD hardware assistance. The one I'm using at the moment is the Sonic Cineplayer DVD Decoder pack.

You can get them at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ins#DVDDecoder
